Gave anotherr 5 stars to "You". Such a beautiful song and comes from the heart the way it's sung. "You are the one who makes me happy when everything else turns to gray... and "you are one of the few things worth remembering.." Great lyrics.

3-Stars
I love the words of this song. There's quite a bit of meaning to this song. Depending on how you listen to it, it could either be a bittersweet love song or a contemporary Christian tune.
The song is absolutely beautiful and Richard's arrangement is wonderful as always. Though, I give it 3-stars because as outstanding as this song is, it tends to drag usually somewhere around the 2 and a half minute mark. It's hardly noticeable but, in certain places Karen is singing slightly out of her range.
Still, this is a favorite from this album.

"You" may very well be one of my favorite cuts from this LP. I really like it, lyrically. I especially like the lyric "You are the crowd that sits quiet, listenin' to me and all the mad sense I make." I agree with you, Rick, in that it can be construed either as a love song, or a contemporary christian recording, and I believe I have actually used it as both somewhere along the line. I like the simplicity of You, and I think Karen's vocal is beautiful. I especially like, musically, where Karen sings after the instrumental chorus - "You are one of the few things worth remembering - (right here there are ooo's that blossom like a flower - incredible - and it continues - And since it's all true, how could anyone mean more to me than You...." -on those two words - THAN YOU - again, another fun and interesting harmony part that I enjoy listening to each and everytime. I gave this one 5 stars. Tim

I'm with Rick on this one. I agree that "You" possesses the Carpenters usual lush sound...and my goodness the word 'yew' is one of those wonderful words which Karen pronounces so utterly uniquely - it is one of things which makes Karen KAREN! But they DO drag this one out a bit for me and therefore I don't listen to it often.
I also think that it is pitched marginally too high for Karen in places (most notably on the line "worth remembering" 2nd time around).
I can take it or leave it but it's still a pretty tune...so 3 stars from me.

5 stars This was a favorite from the first time I heard it in 1976. I love the dreamy quality of this song. Karen's voice is floating through out this melody. I love the lyric, "you are my heart and my soul, my inspiration just like the old love song goes..." and "you are the crowd that sits quiet, listening to me and all the mad sense that I make..." Just classic lyrics, to me, and a perfect vehicle for Karen!

I have just listened to the album for the first time, and this is the song that jumped out at me and made the big first impression. A truly beautiful song, like unto "Now", & "You're The One". A great showcase for Karen's vocal talent, ans I love the bass work toward the end. and indeed, easy to see it in a prayerful tone. 5 stars from me.
