This round finds a match by two super-hits. Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" faces Donna's Summer's "Hot Stuff".
"Heart Of Glass" by Blondie - Reached #1 for one week on April 28, 1979 and was certified Gold for selling over a million copies. Debbie Harry and Chris Stein (who was her boyfriend) wrote the song in their small New York apartment and keyboardist Jimmy Destri provided the synthesizer hook. The result brought punk and disco together on the dance floor.
"Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer - reached #1 and stayed there for three weeks on June 2, June 16 and June 23 in 1979 and was certified Platinum for sales of over two million copies. "Hot Stuff" was a trendsetting song as it fused rock guitars and rhythms with a disco beat. This song won a Grammy award for Best Female Rock Performance.
I will come back with my choice. I must play both songs as both are huge favorites of mine.

Another tough choice, but I go with D. Summer's Hot Stuff....she has such a strong voice which matches so well with that great disco beat.

I went and listened to both songs and as much as I love Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" - there just isn't any competition here - I went with Donna's "Hot Stuff". Donna put all her soul and power into this song and sang it with all her might. And on top of that the music really has muscle behind it - with it great guitar work and pulsating rhythm. Great song. Here is my silly teasing bit... :PVocally, this game is like having Tweety Bird and Godzilla participating in a boxing match Mary there is truth in what you say here. Debbie Harry, as much as I love her, just can not compare to the true vocal talent of Donna Summer. Donna is a singer's singer - and belongs in the class of those such as Aretha Franklin, Karen Carpenter, Dusty Springfield, Barbra Streisand, Patsy Cline, Julie Andrews, Chaka Khan, Dolly Parton and others who are real singers.
Though, Debbie Harry is good for what she does and I really love many of Blondie's and Debbie's (solo) music. I have every album Blondie (and Debbie solo) have recorded - including the two most recent "NO Exit" (1999) and "The Curse Of Blondie" (2002) - both are pretty good albums.
On the other hand I have tons and tons of Donna Summer - something like 30 CD's, 5 cassettes, 10 vinyl albums and 12 7" singles. Plus I have nine CD's full of remixed and rare songs by Donna. I've also seen her live in concert and she was outstanding. She did one song completely a Capella and blow the roof off the house.

:oOh my !!!!you Really do love Donna!...Of course we all know you're dark secret of being a real music collector Junkie! ha.. it's no secret...we know... I really like the way her song "let's Dance" starts out before the real music kicks in...she sings " I need you beside me to guide me...etc." her music is fun if you like disco....

Easy one for me. Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff". There are so many nicer songs by Donna Summer that I love including MacAthur's Park.
I have about 4 of her albums and really like a lot of her non-hits too. One talented gal! I also have her live DVD and she still looks like one hot diva~

Yes, many of her non-hits are outstanding. A few of my favorites are "Cats Without Claws" and "Summer Fever".
I also have the VH1 Live album (released in 1999) and it is fantastic all the way through. Donna's live performances are absolutely inspiring and the newly released songs ("I Will Go With You" and "Love Is The Healer" are amongst her best of the best).

It's quite obvious as to who the winner is in this round. The crown goes to Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" - this song will go to the Semi-Finals Round Four against Bread's "Everything I Own" and two others which will be voted on in the next two rounds.
So far for the year end finals we have these three entries:
"Old Days" by Chicago (I heard this one on the radio yesterday) "Imagine" by John Lennon "Your Song" by Elton John
This round is officially closed.
Thanks all for playing.
