In this round B.J. Thomas and Glen Campbell go head to head...
(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song - B.J. Thomas - was #1 on April 26, 1975
Rhinetone Cowboy - Glen Campbell reached #1 on September 6 and 13, 1975 and also won a Grammy Award.

Well, I like these songs about equally, but I went with B.J. Thomas and his vocally smooth performance.

While these were #1 hits, I generally like the earlier works of these singers much better. Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman," "It's Only Make Believe," "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and his extraordinary duet with Anne Murray on "By The Time I Get to Phoenix/I Say a Little Prayer" and B.J. Thomas' "Long Ago Tomorrow," "Mighty Clouds of Joy" and "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" are among my favorites.
However, the lyrics in "Rhinestone Cowboy" are effective in capturing the unflattering and gritty reality of what some people might go through to the reach the gaudy glitz and glamor of stardom: "...I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway... There's been a load of compromisin' On the road to my horizon But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me..." so my vote goes for that song.

Both Thomas and Campbell are outstanding vocalists and I like them about the same.
As with you GoodOldDreams I prefer many of their early works such as Campbell's "Galveston" and "Turn Around Look At Me" and Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" and "Hooked On A Feeling" Although my favorite tunes by each came later which are Campbell's 1977 #1 "Southern Nights" - what a great upbeat tune and Thomas' top 20 recording of the Beach Boys' "Don't Worry Baby".
As it goes my choice in this round is Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" - the song is very vivid in it's lyrics and I like the overall feel of the song.

You guys sure come up with some great match-ups when you determine the contests. In this case I pretty much like both singers and both songs and the prefered of the two might well depend on my mood that particular day- and today I vote for B.J. and "Somebody Done Somebody Wrong."

Well, I voted for BJ Thomas. I like the lyrics of his song, because he is mocking the country music songs of love and loss very well. It is also a great vocal, because it is just road weary enough to ring true. But, Glen Campbell was a fine musician. He even played with the Beach Boys a bit for goodness sakes.

Thank you Tim for coming in and breaking the tie.
This was a close game from begining to end - but in the end B.J. Thomas' "(Hey Won't You Play Another) Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" wins this round - therefore will go into the Semi-Final round along with Carole King's "So Far Away".
This round is officially closed!
