This is a tough one...
Which one is your favorite Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert / Albert Halsey" or John Lennon's "Imagine".
"Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey" by Paul McCartney reached #1 on September 4, 1971. Paul McCartney won a Grammy Award for his arrangement of this song. Richard Carpenter was noinated in this category for his arrangement of "Superstar" - but as history has it McCartney won the award.
"Imagine" by John Lennon made #3 in November 1971 and has gone on to become one of John's signature tunes.

Although Paul seems to have a sunnier outlook on life in his writing, I'm choosing John's Imagine. Imagine is a classic song with a serious message.

Geez pitting Paul McCartney against John Lennon I feel like I am choosing between two of my children musically speaking. Well those of you who know me will not be surprised that I chose Imagine. The song does have a nice message of unity and was among John Lennons best compositions and arrangements outside the Beatles. I love both John and Paul and both represented songs here but Imagine won out in the end its just a better song top to bottom in my opinion.

My vote goes to Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" - this song has always been one of my all-time favorites - probably my favorite of all the post Beatles songs. I really enjoy the outstanding musical arrangement. Listening to this song is a true event - much like listening to the Beatles' "A Day In The Life".

I have posted some links here for your consideration for easier and more direct comparisons. Although Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert" youtube.com/watch?v=fu6PwvAYJXUis more complex musically, John Lennon's "Imagine" youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0resonates much more meaningfully. (Was John thinking of kissing Yoko, attired almost like a bride, at the end of the video?) I think Richard should have won for his darker and more dramatic arrangement of "Superstar" youtube.com/watch?v=_8MTHHBQdo8over Paul's "Uncle Albert." Just my thoughts.

John Lennon's "Imagine" wins this round... sorry Paul.
"Imagine" and Maria Muldaur's "Midnight At The Oasis" will be two of four to be entered into the semi-finals at the end of this week.
This round is now officially closed.
