?* I just finished listening to some Gordon Lightfoot this morning. Gord's one of my favorite Canadian artists - along with Joni Mitchell, Bryan Adams, and Rush. I love his songs "If you Could Read My Mind", "Sundown", "Carefree Highway", and "Rainy Day People". My favorite song of his is his epic "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" - this is one of the best songs to come out of the 70's. I like a few of his more obscure late 70's tunes such as "The Circle Is Small" (my alternate fave), and "Daylight Katy". Anyone else like the Gord?

I have Gord's Gold, that's a great collection. Sundown is my favorite. His song Beautiful is also really good.

:)Always like to hear Gordon...his voice and style are uniquie...guess I like Sundown the best as far as songs, but I like all the ones mentioned too. Is he still alive...? He makes me also think of Jim Croce and Harry Chapin...although Croce and Chapin both had their own special music and styles. I didn't know Gordon was Canadian...that's great..there are so many great folks there...I haven't been there, but many singers came from there..
Oops...scratch that is he alive question...I just saw the ad at the top of this page saying to buy his newest video...ss

Yes, Gordon Lightfoot is still very much alive....and singing again, too! Canadian Idol did a special tribute to him and his songs last year, and I just loved hearing his songs being sung by the different contestants on the show.....they are so poetically & beautifully written!!!!
I believe I remember hearing once that the song, "If You Could Read My Mind" was written about his heartach relationship with Carly Simeon. I remember a comment Gordon made concerning that song being performed by one of the "Candian-Idol" wanna-be's (who did in fact become the "Canadian Idol - Kalan Porter").....he said that it brought up some painful memories for him hearing the song sung again....which is why he doesn't like re-visiting that old room too often.
I love his poetic song-writing style.....his easy acoustic sound......his gentle carefree voice.... He's one of my favourites!
Here are just some of the songs I thoroughly enjoy (which I believe would be MOST of his hits, wink!!!) .... "Softely" "Beautiful" "If you could read my Mind" "Talking in your Sleep" "Sundown" "Rainy Day People" "Summer Side of Life" "I'm Not Saying" "If You Need Me" "Early Morning Rain" "Cotton Jenny" "Carefree Highway" "Black Day in July" "Bitter Green" "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" "Alberta Bound"......and so on.....and I could go on!!!!
