???I always liked the group Bread...David Gates being another "high noter" I have their greatest hits. they really had some "good vibes". Loved the "chick flick" Goodbye Girl. I think maybe Karen could have done a good job singing their hit "Lost Without Your Love".. It kind of reminds me of the song Solitaire. Seems lately I've been hearing more of Eric Carmen's "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" like over the radio and that's also one of my all time favorites from those days. Guess there were a lot of bands that broke up during the 70's. My brother was oh sooo cool back in those days...he got a black light and had a poster or two up that "glowed in the dark! and then he married and I got his room... and also inherited the black light... Since we all grew up very churchy...none of us were very wild ...so I guess I pretended like I was really hip

???I remember Guitar Man...very talented folks with them singing and with their instruments. Didn't know Gates had put out another after G-Bye girl...was he on his own with G-bye Girl or still with Bread? I'm glad the 70's was such a decade with so many talented folks....and just about every song it seems that I used to hear back then was good ...then w/ Richard and Karen...they were so Huge! and they lasted on top of the charts world round for a long time.

I loved Bread also; one of my favorites were "Everything I own". I think that was the name of it. Really nice song.
My all time favorite is "Precious and Few" by Climax. That may have even been from the late 60's to early 70's I'm not sure.

"Goodbye Girl" was David Gates solo, same with "Took The Last Train". Gates has made several solo albums. His first solo album was released in 1973, while he was still with Bread. I agree that Karen could have sung "Lost without Your Love" beautifully. That song is very well suited for her.

I also like bread my favorites are the more obvious ones such as If, Make It With You, Baby I'm A Want You, Everything I Own, It Don't Matter To Me as well as Guitar Man also like David Gates Goodbye Girl. Bread was always pigeon holed as easy listening and sickly sweet like the Carpenters so David Gates must have identified with Karens frustration of not being taken seriously by the critics. I have the antholgy of Bread and it has all the hits so thats all I need alot of good material from this band.

Hey....you all have some real great music taste in here!!! Bread is another group I have always absolutely loved....their soft, easy, mellow sound!!! I love all the songs mentioned here by each of you.....plus many more, but I won't list them all because there's too many to type!!! I love the solo tunes of David Gates, also....the songs mentioned here.....and also, "Light of my Life." The song, "Hello it's Me".....was that by Todd Rundgren? Sounds alot like a Bread song, don't you think? Same with, "Just when I need you Most" by Randy Vanwarmer. Did Bread ever sing the "All I need is the air that I Breath" song...or was that the Hollies? I can kinda picture Karen singing that song. And you mentioned the group America, Rick.....yes, another favourite of mine!!! Don't you just love their harmonizing!!! I heard the lead singer went solo after the group spit up, and became a christian who re-did the song "I need You" on a more christian-based album......singing of his need for his Saviour. My mind is going blank concerning his name right now? ? There's some real fine music made today, but there's just something about the 70's music that can't be replaced......it had real heart, passion, depth, style, story-telling....... something I find very hard to hear in today's music......or maybe I'm just "old" & not too willing to bend with the times?

Hi Heartwaves...
You are right "Hello It's Me" was done by Todd Rundgren. I agree it does have a sound similar to Bread. I remember one time being in a restaurant with a friend and "Hello It's Me" came on and my friend said, "Who sings that? Is it the Carpenters?". I just laughed and said no, that's a guy singing, Todd Rundgren.
You are also right about "The Air That I Breath", that was done by the Hollies. Yes, Karen could have done an amazing job with that song.
Did you know Randy Vanwarmer passed away recently. There's another thread on this board about that. I really liked a good amount of his music. I own four of his albums. They're all fairly good.
Dan Peek is the member from America who left the band to pursue a career in Chrisitan music. He had a semi-hit in 1976 called "All Things Are Possible" which had a spiritual theme to it's lyrics. It's a beautiful song.

It's sad to hear that Randy Vanwarmer passed away.....do you know what the cause was? I have to admit, I am only familiar with his one song, "Just when I needed you Most." Did he have any other hits on the radio I might reckognize???
Dan Peek, right! Thanks for reminding me of his name.....and the info of the christian song he put out. I wonder if he's still doing some singing....or if there will ever be a reunion with the group, America?
