I have long thought that Snape had a thing for Lily. We know Lily would 'protect' Snape from the teasing from the guys (James and crew) when they got carried away. And I think the more attention Lily gave to Snape , the more Snape fell for her ... and the more James got jealous. Advance to adulthood: ... James and Lily marry/ Harry is born/ Snape gets somehow involved with Tom Riddle (and his nasty other persona) ... then ... the attack on the Potters and many others/James is toast ...Lily chooses to die ... Harry survives ...advance to Harry's first year (and every year thereafter): Snape and Harry (who looks and acts a great deal like James ... except for his Lily-like eyes) meet, resulting in instant adversarial confrontations. Harry's saving grace (to Snape) - his connection to Lily (bloodline, but the physical reminder when Snape looks into/at Harry's eyes. Hey T, and others, have you read this JK interview www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/#static:tlcinterviews/jkrhbp1You just told me something without really meaning to. And, it makes good sense. One of the questions in your recent post about Good Snape Vs. Bad Snape had to do with Occlumancy and why Bad Snape didn't really try to teach Harry Occlumancy. Well...let's think about this.....WHAT would Snape have to do in order to teach Harry Occlumancy? LOOK INTO HIS EYES. Yes, and if those eyes consistently reminded Snape of Lily, then Voila! Of course he's not going to want to look into them and remember all of those good (and bad) memories. You're right in that, when Harry drifts off during exams and dreams of his father, Sirius and Lupin together, it IS Lily Potter who tells them not to torment Snape. He hears this (and how many times does this really happen that we don't know about? Repeatedly, I'm sure - over the years. So I feel certain the one reason Harry DIDN'T learn occlumancy as well as he chould have is because Severus couldn't continue to look him dead in the eye! Hmmmm....... The cover of book 7 was revealed yesterday morning on the Today Show. Did you happen to see it? It sports a cloak covered Voldemort - the first book with him anywhere on the cover - but the other interesting thing to me was how much Harry has morphed into Daniel Radcliffe! I always thought they did SO well in finding Daniel to play Harry in the movies, because there was a bit of a resemblence to the fellow they portrayed on the book covers. But this cover looks more like Daniel, in fact, than it does Harry. It's due out mid to late July. Can hardly wait. (We'd speculated she would put it out on 07/07/07, but I suppose that's NOT going to happen after all.). Right, then - I'm off to read the review from the link you so kindly provided. Thanks a million for that, wj7! I wish you all the best from here in my corner, Tim I missed the book cover showing, but if it is 'out' I'm bound to see it somewhere. Happy reading!

S*P*O*I*L*E*R So, if you have not read all the way through to the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, please read no further into this thread, as this spoiler alert is to announce that we may discuss the entire plot, and ending of the book. WAY COOL the way this piece of fiction ended. I personally loved the series. What a great thing for our kids to leave their kids....sort of like the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew or Anne of Green Gables. Some excellent writing by Jo (J.K.) Rowling. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows did not disappoint. Harry, Hermione and Ron set out for the adventure of their lifetime in this, the final installment of Harry's adventures as the son of James and Lily Potter, who were sacrificed right away in the first book to Lord Voldemort, and Lily's love was actually the protection Harry needed to live, and the downfall of a greedy evil Lord Voldemort who had forgotten about this "old" magic, and allowed it to backfire on HIM. HeHeHe. As I've stated before, the idea of the magic is all a metaphore, for me. Good always, always won out over evil, no matter what. Yes, there were a few deaths to deal with - one of the toughest being Harry's Godfather, Sirius Black. I'll have to say, for me, another really hard death was Dobby, the House Elf, and definitely Hedwig, Harry's snowy white pet owl who was a gift from one of his favorite friends, Hagrid the giant. Jo Rowling did a wonderful series of interviews with Merideth Vierra from The Today Show. One thing they had in common - Merideth's husband has Multiple Sclerosis, and Jo's mother died from complications of MS. It was sometimes a difficult conversation, as I have understood it, and for that very reason. But, it was a really good interview, and we learn a lot from it. For example, Mr. Weasley (definitely another "father figure" for Harry) was spared his life in book 5 - he almost bought the farm in that one. But Jo couldn't stand to "kill" off his character. One reason: He had become a father figure to Harry, just as had Sirius Black, who was killed, and Professor Albus Dumbledore, who was also sacrificed, and then there was Professor Lupin, who didn't make it through book 7. Knowing she was going to sacrifice Lupin, and having already planned the death of Black and Dumbledore, she saved Arthur Weasley and he did, in fact, make it to the end of the book. I loved the epilogue, even though it left us with many, many questions. It also answered many of them. It was 19 years after the battle for good over evil, of which good was triumphant. Jo refers to Harry's Scar (which was given to him when Voldemort tried to kill him when he was a baby, and because of his mother's love, only gave Harry a scar, rather than death) and that it hadn't hurt in the 19 years since Voldemort's demise at Harry's hand 19 years prior (the end of the book, prior to the epilogue). It told of Harry's marriage to Jenny Weasley, of Ron's and Hermione's marriage (knew that would happen), and of the children of both couples - Harry having named one of his children after his arch nemisis throughout this entire series, Severus Snape. Snape is still the guy who hated Harry, and gave him such a hard time all throughout school, but he did desert "the dark side" and was an incredibly brave soul to have done so. In the end, Harry recognizes his bravery, and admires him for it. A twist to that plot, indeed. Also many other details were there, and it was just well put together. Pip, Pip, JK Rowling. A story so worth waiting for, and so well done. Harry Potter is now a part of our American History. A fun part, me thinks. Other comments??? I wish you all the best from here in my corner, Tim

I'm going to read Deathly Hallows again, and will think about your comments during the read. I read it so quickly, I'm afraid I didn't realize just "how" worried Hermione seemed to be. I did notice she was quite nervous throughout, but I suppose I chalked that up to the fact that they were traveling on a lark, apparating to various unknown outside locales. It would have been enough to drive anyone batty, I would think - but apparently it's the only method they had to remain out of sight. So, I need to be more cognizant of this as I go through the book again. Good thing to watch for. Also, I have to agree that as I began thinking about it, there are many, many things that go unexplained, and questions left unanswered, however many there were that DID get answered. But, Jo did say that she planned a thorough time-line sort of thing with Harry, and every single person in the series to let us know about all of their geneology - all the back stories and all of the time lines of what happens to them (past what we know from the epilogue). I'll look forward to that. A directory, of sorts, for each character with past and present and future indicated for each. So, we've more to look forward to, as I suspect this will be a relatively thick book in and of itself, containing an emmense amount of information. !!!!
