You know, the Dove is used as a sign of "peace." I hope to use it in that way this evening. I must agree with everyone's comments, in many ways. Dave, you couldn't be more spot-on with your missive about the media. They do seem to enjoy the negative rather than the positive. For as much as I used to like to get caught-up on what was going on in the world, and since I don't take the local paper, I chose CNN, after Soledad moved over there from NBC. American Morning is still the best CNN newscast, although I truly enjoy Anderson, too. My children used to watch Anderson when he was but a child reporter, and reported for the educational channel, 1. Anderson seems completely convicted in his chosen work, and it comes through; as does Soledad. I digress.... Rick, I've never truly considered alien forms....but like O.E. and WiseJester7 both seemed to indicate....why not? I do agree with both you and with Palm that there is SO, so much we do NOT know, still. And, the various comments on this post - all of which are thought provoking, have given me pause the past few days to do some introspective reflecting. I tried again tonight, to see what was on the news. It's worse than ever. They are talking about the wars currently in progress, and what the President is going to do to find middle ground in North Korea, Iraq, and all the countries in the Middle-East. It might be some interesting commentary on Larry King, as Condi Rice is supposed to be the guest - it might be interesting to see what she has to say about her recent, though failed visit to the Middle East. Yet, I don't think I can watch it. Nor can I bring myself to turn any of them on. The media have hit their limit with me, certainly. To go along with this topic, as we had the hurricaines last year, we have seemed to have had a horrible time (especially where you are, Rick, in SoCal) this year with both heat and fire. All of these are symbols. Should we be trying to (metaphisically) be figuring these out? Nah! I don't think so. Bottom line is this. There is a time, and a place, for everything. A time for every purpose, under Heaven. I'm gonna leave it in HIS hands....it's too much to carry around, and there isn't anything I can control about these situations. I can pray for peace, and that is how I chose to handle this one. I wish you all Peace from here in my corner, Tim

Tim,
We are but vapors in the eternal scheme of things. We are not to worry about things we can't control (even the birds are noticed and taken care of), but we are to live the most righteous lives we can. The news dwells on the bad so often it is hard not to become numb, yet we have to remain vigilant. We can promote good in our corner of the world, though.

Yet more interesting insights. Aliens as we call them. Could it be that maybe we are the aliens. Could we be the stranger in a strange land? With the experiments and discoveries made by the Hubble Telescope we now are aware of hints and possiblities that their was once some sort of life on Mars. This is no longer speculation but a fact. I'm sure as time goes on we will learn more about Mars. This is all very interesting to think about.
I was also thinking about our limited knowledge of all things in this life, this universe, this galaxy, and how things may be in the beyond. This lead me to think about different types of people. It's amazing to think that there are people with photographic memeories. There are actually people who can look at a page with a thousand or more randoms words on it. They can look at that page for only a few mere seconds and then close the book and recite every word on that page in perfect sequence. This is amazing. It is possible that many famous artists and composers, like Claude Monet and Mozart, had eidetic memory. The word eidetic comes from the Greek word eidos, which means image. Eidetic memory is also photographic memeory.
Another fascinating thought is people who have heightened senses. For the longest time I stayed away from believing in this sort of stuff as I feel seers, palm readers, fortune tellers and such are generally fakes. But there must be some people somewhere maybe not in human form - but possibly in spirit form that can see into what we think and feel. I think that psychics which are used by the police most likely see things because they have eidetic memories. They're able to take in massive amounts of information about a person or people or events. They can take in every word said to them on any case, they can take in the evidence they've looked at, they can take in smells from evidence, they can take in visiuals from pictures, they can take in sounds they've heard at the crime scenes and much more. They can take all this in and keep all very detailed in their minds and process things unlike other people with normal memories can. I beleive when someone with an eidetic memory looks at a piece of mateiral or any other object they can memorize every thread and fiber in it. They can memorize even the smallest of color variations in the patterns, they can memorize stains that the normal mind wouldn't see. They can take all this information in from one object - much more inofrmation than your normal mind - and they can process it and come up with theories and thoughts which lead to other objects, places and people. Until finally all this stored up information is processed and leads the (psychic) person with the eidetic memory right to the root of the crime. Very interesting isn't this?
Love your corner Tim. Who would have thought we would be discussing this sort of topic.

That was an excellent and concise synopsis given by Wisejester yesterday- thanks. Rick, I agree with you that sometimes people are given extraordinary gifts and talents, of any and all sorts, to use for good. (My mind goes back to a movie of about 10 years ago- it was called "Phenomena" and had a premise somewhat along these lines. In my own mind, I am encouraged by the thought that while most of us may not possess what we would consider extraordinary gifts, each one of us has unique and practical gifts, and a combination of life opportunities and relationships (through which we can influence others for good) that will never be duplicated in anyone else. Press on with strength and joy!

Instead of watching the news, I'm reading Tim's Corner! Well, this is too irresistable, these issues about the TV news, aliens, intelligent life, new planets, the Bible, cats... Some wise person once said that if you have two people with the same opinion, one of them is not needed! This discussion evokes many of my ideas. Maybe there'll be time to put out a smattering of them on this thread from time to time. For example, I'm proud to say that my two cats born while I lived in Sacramento, California, mother and daughter (one kitten from her second and last litter) stayed with me through living in 8 different houses or apartments, in 4 different cities, in two states, also including one long-term, almost common marriage, and half a dozen dating relationships, etc., and only recently passed away. The mother passed at 20 years of age. The following year the daughter went, also 20 by that time. They saw a lot! If they could've written stories! Currently, it's back to 2 mixed cats, and now 2 dogs. One dog is a big black standard poodle. I didn't know standard poodles could be so intelligent. The other is a small white 50/50 mix of poodle and bichon frise. It is wonderful to hear different views on these subjects, especially when we all seem to agree on the fundamentals. For example, is their life on other planets? Maybe, maybe not. Fun to think about, but then we get back to our business on Earth and doing what we can to affect our circle of influence, and not worry. Like Tim said: "...there isn't anything I can control about these situations. I can pray for Peace...." I love the word for "worry" in Spanish: Preocupado. That's just the essence of worry; we become preoccupied, and that's the problem, too. Yes, we need to be aware of what's going on in the world, but it starts to be destructive to ourselves when we worry over what we cannot control. We also need to be aware that the goal of news stories is NOT to deliver information. The goal is to sell more papers, or get more people to watch. By the time I get to work in the morning, I'll bet I've heard or seen the same 10-15 news items a half dozen times: TV, 2 or 3 radio stations, newspaper, on-line news. The TV and radio stations alone repeat the same stories several times before you move on to another stage of going to work! Nowadays I'm fasting from TV! What am I going to miss? That still doesn't prevent hearing or seeing the same news stories several times each day. Thank you, Tim for creating an atmosphere where people can come together and share observations and thoughts in a way that we hope helps others and definitely helps us by articulating our thoughts and feelings! Tim, you've made it clear about everyone's location around the world. It's mindboggling. I never understood why supposed "geeks" would sit at their computers all day on the internet contacting people near and far. That wouldn't be the life for me. However, this place carries the common experience we've all known, which often gets described on these pages in spiritual terms. In my 'umble opinion, there's a little bit of something going on here, and "What it is, is Heaven...." At least a small patch of the garden that we're cultivating and enjoying the fruits. Have a great rest of the weekend everybody. Ciao for niao "KC"

Being as involved in spatial subjects as I've become, I find it quite fascinating. The other night, I was cruising YouTube, and watched the "video" for "Calling Occupants". It featured a lot of space photos from the Mount Palomar and Keck observatories, as well as the "ship" from the cover of the album. In the time when that was produced, there was no MTV, no Friday Night Videos, really, no mass media exposure. So why did they produce it? Sounds like a good question for Richard's "Fans Ask" column. When they moved to California, Agnes found employment in the Downey aerospace plant which made the Apollo spacecraft and later, would manufacture components for the space shuttle Columbia. Did she bring "the kids" to the plant, and perhaps they met some astronauts of the time? I could ask Richard, but at that time he was meeting John Bettis and getting sacked at Disney Land, so perhaps space wasn't primary on his mind. But what about Karen? She was a teenage girl then, probably more concerned with whatever Beatle she had a crush on. Did she look up at the night sky and wonder what was out there? Did she dream of following Scott Carpenter, no relation, into space? There weren't many opportunites then for women in aerospace. Dr. Sally Ride, born in Encino, CA., was one year younger than Karen, but she would blaze the trail for American women in spaceflight. She would make history a few months after Karen left us, lifting off on June 18, 1983. If Karen watched her sister thunder into space, she was watching from a higher place... After Challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff, there was a pause while America's space program collected itself and determined what went wrong. When Columbia shattered into flaming pieces on a crisp, clear Texas morning, there were those who trumpeted that we'd lost the ability to do human spaceflight, and the program should be discontinued. It was just "too risky". But somehow, people who care managed to shut out the naysayers, and we've had two successful shuttle missions since then. Completing the program without incident is, in my opinion, the best way to honor those who gave their lives in the pursuit of the answer to Man's eternal question: what's out there? I believe that the universe is simply too vast, and too old, to say that humanity is it. 100 years from today, children will marvel at the tales of those brave people, not just men, who volunteered to be strapped into primitive chemical rockets and be blasted into the sky. Their teachers will tell them these things, from their classrooms on Mars. Boeing had the best commercial that explains why we do this: "When we're born, we look up."

That's an easy answer Dave. The "Calling Occupants..." video you saw was filmed for the TV special "Space Encounters". But there is another really great video of "calling Occupants..." which features some great shots of Tony Peluso when he does his guitar solo. This music video was referred to as a Promotion Film. Many artists in the 70's (primarily from 1975 and on) shot these promo films. They were used to promoted their albums. Carpenters were no strangers to promo films. As a matter of fact I believe they were amongst the first to do them. They shot films for "Please Mr. Postman" (at Disneyland), "Only Yesterday", "I Need To Be In Love", "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song" and several others. These prmo films are all now released on either the "Gold" DVD or "Interpretations" DVD.

Wow....there has been a great deal of varied discussion going on since I last posted here. I'm glad I opened up such a conversation. It's been quite fascinating for me to read everyone's thoughts about these topics. I have decided to take a long hiatis from television news, myself. I did turn on CNN, just to see what was going on just last night - and each show was the same - one followed the other with the same story - that would be the terrorism that was apparently foiled in the UK. Well, I have to admit, we do have the TV on in the a.m. when getting ready for work - more in the background than anything else, but did wake up on that morning when the plot had been thwarted, and immediately began to think of people over in the U.K., wondering how THEY were doing....so much going on over there. I heard from our own Prisoner_Walking (Leo) and his lyricist, Antony...both who said they were fine. I was pleased to know that - but all this action was, indeed, very close to their homes. And, as I watched last night - the reporters were there in the U.K. with the lovely bridge and river Thames in the background...but every SINGLE show was the same. How sad....so I'm happy NOT to be attempting to even catch the news except in the mornings - and doing other things with my evening hours. One thing I've so needed to do was get back to this forum, but life has a way of interrupting us at times, yes? Quickly, last weekend we were called away to care for a family member who'd taken a spill...ended up with a concusion, and needed to have someone watch them. A lengthy trip later, we were available for them. It makes me happy when I can actually do something like that for someone else. It put me a bit behind on getting other things done, but that's okay - all in good time, yes? I find these types of temporary set-backs totally worth it. Then, upon my return, come to find out (a big Italian family, don't forget) there were other "family" issues here to contend with. Suffice it to say - it took some time, and some energy, but things have all sorted themselves out for the moment. So...here I am. I mentioned to you in a new thread that I would, definitely, be getting my reviews of Palma's wonderful CD In & Out of Love completed, I hope, within the next week. I actually have been able to sit and work on them. It's a process, you know. It doesn't just flow off the end of my fingers.....I put a lot of thought into doing these reviews, and I take a great deal of time, hoping that I can adequately describe the beauty, excitement, whatever it is about this wonderful music for each of you. I have heard so many lovely Pascale tunes that Karen and Richard could have done, and done so well. I think you will find this is very true, if you listen to these works for yourself. I can provide you with the ordering info again at any point...just let me know. As I believe I also mentioned, Palma is having her own website created. I'm delighted to tell you (even if I have, already....cause I'm awfully PROUD of this) that my reviews of Palma's CD's will be a part of her new website. Yes, I'm totally jazzed about that. It makes me very, very happy. Thanks, Palma. KC, Rick, Dave, O.E., Palma - all this wonderful discussion about animals, and perhaps life on other planets - or a higher form of intelligent life than we know now. Interesting. I have not thought about this in a long time, in terms of the more intelligent life forms, but can certainly agree with many of the things you've spilled here. I guess I'm leaning more toward the spiritual side of this, as I do believe, like Dave, that we certainly have "guardian angels" guiding our way on a daily basis. Are these people who have gone on before us, or special beings that might be a part of that intelligent life form we're musing about? I just don't feel qualified to go much further with THAT discussion. HOWEVER, when it comes to animals, I CAN go there....I have lived my life around cats, always. You see, my aunt lived with my grandparents and she always had cats. Much of this time was before we knew it was a better idea to neuter and spay our animals right away, unless we were planning to breed them for others to enjoy. So, I watched many, many cats have many many litters, and lots of little kitties came and went...came and went. It was interesting to discover when a new pet cat was brought into the house, usually after a long life by the previous one, to find out what the name would be, and how THIS personality would develop. There was one I can remember that I really liked, and her name fit her so perfectly. She'd been named "Cleopatra" and was a beautiful, all while regular old Cat. Nothing special about her, except that SHE thought there was. However, she was the most friendly of all the years of house cats I can remember. Good old Cleo. She lived for many, many years. I think the current cat's name is Muffy, or some such thing as that. ME? NO cats. Well, the two cats that KC refers to in his post (Teenie and Stara were their names) lived at my house for a weekend or so.... Neither my wife nor I get along very well wtih cats in terms of allergies. So, Teenie and Stara actually lived in my spare room....and I think KC is right - they would have many, many (interesting) stories to tell, I am quite sure. I have, currently, a beautiful all-white Maltese named Scruffy. He's a most loving dog. We've had him for four years - it doesn't seem possible - seems like we just got him yesterday, in many ways. He very much lives up to his description of being a "lap" dog. He loves nothing more than to climb up into either my wife's or my lap, and just sit. Well, perhaps being petted, once in that position, is a definite plus, in his opinion. But he does love to be "close" to you, and that's just fine with me. He's quite laid back, and he does love to have his tummy rubbed. He has brought me HOURS and HOURS of low-anxiety moments. I can really feel stressed, and without even knowing it, after a half hour with Scruffy on my lap and petting him (usually absentmindedly) does me a WORLD of good. Healers, they are me thinks. Don't know what I'd do without Scruffy. Typically, he's either on my lap, or at least on the floor right next to me as I use the computer, too. As long as he's "close" he's content. It doesn't take much. I try to take ques from this behavior. What TRULY makes me happy, and do I have to have MUCH, really? NO. That's the bottom line. I'll be the first to admit I lose sight of this from time to time. But when push comes to shove, one doesn't really NEED that much. Wanting and needing are hard to seperate, sometimes - at least for me. There are times when I feel pretty needy - of a bit of appreciation - of a bit of recognition - of a bit of space - those types of things. It's not often, but sometimes those things (thoughts/feelings) push my buttons and start gnawing at me. Then there are other times when I want "things" I don't currently have. And, I don't think that's a bad thing - it's just that it must be put into perspective, and my feeling on it is that in the right time, all things will be available to me that I need. I am so grateful for each of you - your input - your thoughts - your insight. Wow, I learn a lot every time I connect with you. And, writing in Tim's Corner also makes me stop and think about many things, as you all post back and make your comments. Thank you for that. Thank you for your input, as it's what keeps this entire forum going. Rick, again accolades for such a wonderful website. The whole thing is always so polished looking and so well maintained. It's really a treat to be a part of the Carpenters Online familiy. The other parts of the forum have been interesting and exciting lately, too. I enjoy everyone's opinions on the song-by-song album coverage. There are consistently new elements of Karen and Richard's wonderful music that creep into the conversation "like the thread OE started about the non-verbal utterances" that just make me smile as I read through the intelligent posts people make about the subject. It's amazing. Once again, look for the reviews of Palma's gorgeous CD In & Out of Love coming soon to a Tim's Corner thread near you.....AND more words on the brilliant voice of Leo Tarring with lyrics by Antony Edwards. These two are making a great team, and I enjoy listening to Leo's voice very much. Oofah! It's SO good. I see a long, bright future in the offing for him. Hoping everyone continues with this conversation, or maybe it'll go in a whole new direction, eh? It's great having this place to "gather" - lovin' this spot. Have a wonderful week, all. I wish you all the best from here in my corner, Tim

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Whew - well, I just spent about 2 hours trying to catch up on the main forum. SO MUCH GREAT STUFF GOING ON THERE. Really fun, interactive threads started and a lot of "thinking" to do, eh? Thanks to all for providing some very interesting times - WiseJester7, Prisoner_Walking (Leo), GoodOldDreams, Rick (of course), Dr. Johnny P. LoveTrain, Carps1000 (Ken), O.E. (EXCEPTIONAL mind game), Moe (good to see YOU back), Cam (nice to have YOU back, as well)....and all the others who have posted and had fun with the threads these folks have come up with. Hopefully Dana (MagicLamp) will be back with us shortly, too. Palma has been posting here and there, as has KCmusician, as time allows. It's just a wonderful gathering place. So glad when I hear from Beaner and Smoothie (Katt); Ming, I always love your interjections too, and BETH!!! So good that Beth is feeling well and posting again. It's been super hearing from Rob, Sammy and Heartwaves. I just learn so much from each of you that post on this forum - it's one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. O.E., I understand you've ordered MORE Broken Cup CD's....good on you for that! They do make great gifts. Dave, Dave, Dave.....I know we'll see more of you as the summer winds down, and the pool is no longer "whispering" in your ear. Summer is about over, yes? Can you believe it? It seems to have FLOWN by, at least for me. I used to hear, when I was a child, how fast time goes...but I didn't believe it. I guess it only flies when you grow up. Ah, youth is wasted on the young. I'm listening to Leo tonight. He's singing a song that Dana and Gary wrote (MagicLamp and her husband) - "They Don't Make Hearts" and Leo does it so WELL. I will give you my views (and this surprises you for what reason?) in the thread I started about him - from Hijacked to High Praise, also in Tim's Corner, at some point this week, I hope. I like to listen intently, as I did when I was young to Carpenters....and have to Palma, in order to get the nuances of the songs. There are many in Leo's fine work, as well. I'm so proud to know this young man and hope I can somehow be instrumental in helping him find a way to let the "world" hear him, as well. He is an excellent vocalist - so much of Karen Carpenter's style in his vocalease - it's so evident to me that Karen highly influenced Leo. I've been battling with a computer virus, which is one reason I haven't been on the main part of the forum, or even in Tim's Corner for the past couple of weeks. It's no fun not to be able to get here, and just look at all the catching up I had to do. Incredible. Many things are happening for me at the moment, musically. I've had my recording equipment all serviced after years of not doing anything with it...should have it, and my great recording mic back soon, so I can begin making some singles, myself. NO, I'm not trying for a career - just for fun. I have so much I want to record from others RIGHT HERE ON THIS WEBSITE. Also, something very cool happened last week at work....which is very helpful to me in an odd sort of way. My boss recently purchased a new, very high-level, very powerful file server (CPU) for our office. He is having the old one's memory erased, and then he is giving that to me. It's also much more powerful than you would just go out and purchase as a CPU for a desktop computer, for example. It's a file server, and was serving 5 full-time computers just fine. So..it's quite a powerful unit. I've been hoping to find someone's throw-away CPU, as I have monitor and keyboard, so that I could set up a computer in my music room, and leave it. As it is, now, in order to use the software I have (Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro), I have to set up the laptop every time I want to record. It usually takes an hour to get it all set up. By that time, I'm either out of time to actually do the recording, or just plain out of the mood. So usually, I don't bother with it. As it is, when I get this computer set up, it will be a "dedicated" computer JUST to record on. Nice thing....it will ALWAYS be ready to record on, at the flick of a button. THAT I can do. I'm pretty made up about it. And the file server is such a powerful CPU that I should be able to do the recording, editing, etc., very quickly. Very fab. I feel very fortunate that I've received Bachelor Buttons, another absolutely wonderful musical penned exclusively by our own Palma Pascale. I have the story behind the musical, and will be happy to share that with any of you, if you would like. Just let me know by posting here, and I'll be most pleased to share it, and tell you about the music that makes up Bachelor Buttons. Palm knows already my favorite (well...ONE of my favorite) songs is entitled Edna...a beautiful sweet waltz that is incredibly arranged and orchestrated. It's such a fun tune. How someone can write an entire "musical" score is beyond me, but Palma can do it. And, just to let you know, Palm been writing again. I'm delighted. This, my friends, is a result of what has happened here at Carpenters Online, ultimately. Palma has been inspired to sit and write new "Sinatra-type" tunes, one of which is called FOR MY LADYFRIEND....it's absolutely awesome...I will be recording this one....and I just learned yesterday that a new Christian Praise tune was written apparently over the weekend. Lots of good news to share. I love new songs. Folks, if it weren't already midnight, I'd continue - however, it's time for me to sign off and end this "musing" for tonight. Look for more info about our own Prisoner_Walking coming soon in a thread near this one, in fact. Along with other topics...I'm thinking I should start a thread about Billy Joel. Any takers? I wish you ALL the best from here in my corner, Tim ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just wanted to pass along a bit of unfortunate news from my little corner of the world. If you have read through any of the posts here in Tim's Musings, you'll recall I mentioned how excited I was to be having my 4-track cassette recorder repaired, so I could begin making my own recordings (backing tracks, CD cuts, etc.) of our very own Carpenters Online talented artists. But alas, it isn't meant to be, at least, not by this vehicle. I got a call from the company who tried desperately to "revive" my little 4-track friend, however it is hopeless. I'm told there is some sort of disorder (crack or something) in the motor, and she just can't be fixed, as Tascam, the maker of the thing, does not make the parts for this particular unit any longer. So, I will have to wait until such time as the hard disc has been erased from my employer's CPU file server until I can begin making any sort of recordings. Of late, I've begun to wonder if I'm getting the proverbial sign that I shouldn't undertake this in the first place....sometimes, that's how it feels. Since I'd shared with you what the plan was, I thought I'd share, as well, what the outcome of the plan is as it stands now.....without the funds to purchase a brand new tape deck recording system, I'm in a holding pattern. (Perhaps the message I'm getting here is that I need more practice!) I wish you all the best from here in my corner~ Tim

Thanks to you WiseJester7 and to Leo for your encouraging words and the reminder that "where there's a will, there's a way". Of course, maintaining a positive attitude is necessary to "find" that "way" referred to in the saying....so here's to all the wonderful people here at Carpenters Online....to Leo and Palm for writing the excellent music that I'm so anxious to record, myself......and to Rick for allowing me a place to discuss these issues with all of you, here in Tim's Corner. Hey you, Missouri Martini, listen up...this is the New York City Chick...I have just found your posting about the disabled machinery...and I say, it is only one more sign that you have to come to TIKI and make some records with me and Fred! An artist of YOUR caliber shouldn't have to work his own equipment, for goodness sake! It is certainly NOT a sign that you should hang up your dreams...not happening while I'm around! For those of you who don't know, Tim is doing a GREAT job of remaking my Christian songs, complete with arrangements so like the originals, I swear he had my tracks sometimes! He does me the honor of presenting them at church, and then sending me his versions...I just LOVE it! He studies the songs so carefully, and reproduces them so faithfully, it's a tribute to this composer/arranger, believe me. So tonight I send out HEALING PRAYER for your equipment, and mostly apologize for being out of touch lately, so busy here with interesting new developments, that I haven't been communicating with my ARCHIVIST enough! May I now quote myself...ahemmmm.... "GET UP ONE MORE TIME, TAKE MY HAND YOU SAID, DON'T LOOK BACK THIS TIME, LOOK AT ME (GOD) INSTEAD." There, Martini, that should snap you back into action! I am looking forward to the many versions of my songs to be recorded in Missouri and in New York! Onward, dude! I'm writing more songs for you to sing, so hang on! Love, Palma

TJ Please, please accept my profuse apologies! When one of your e-mails mentioned "getting the 4-track cassette recorder fixed" something about that shocked me. My thoughts and response went into an unfinished letter rather than back immediately by e-mail. My apologies because it's starting to seem clear that the 'answer' came to me, to pass on to you. I believe that when God is 'calling certain occupants' with a specific message, we aren't always attuned just right, so you sometimes get my messages and I get yours, etc., and we have to pass them on! God likes team spirit! Palma, it sounds like you got a message for Tim, too! The following is cut & pasted right out of my letter from last week: "Here’s a thought: instead of getting the 4-track cassette recorder fixed, look into a 4-track or 8-track or more Digital recorder. You don’t lose virtually any quality when you dub over & over. Music takes a lot of storage media, as you know, so storage would be an issue. They make the kind where you work on one song at a time and then burn a CD to save it. That makes no sense to me; stay away from that kind. Seems to me DAT (digital audio tape) would be better than that. You seem OK with my mixes. I use a 4-track MiniDisc recorder. Each track is digital, however it’s compressed. Then it decompresses when it plays back. Kind of like mp3 technology, but it’s not compressed anywhere near as much and therefore much higher quality than mp3 types. There's a big difference to my ears between a song played from an mp3 file versus the same song from CD quality, which is un-compressed. The digital minidisc usually sounds almost the same as CD quality to me; I can't usually distinguish a difference. Or, switch to recording your tracks directly on your computer with the new CPU. Well, you already know about Cool Edit Pro. Store the files on your hard drive. My laptop contains 60gigabytes of storage but I store what I can on a 200 gig external drive. Then when the mix is just right, burn CDs to listen in different places with different equipment (funny what you learn by doing that). I guess it’s throwing me why you would want the 4-track cassette recorder!" Palma is right, you're at a much higher level now. That's why the 4-track cassette recorder broke down! That happens to me when I keep trying to make something work that should be let go: whatever it is, suddenly it doesn't work, which forces me to give up. Then, stepping back, it's obvious there was too much wrong-headed energy being poured down the drain and it's time to change gears. Yes, you need to get out of First gear with the cassette thing and move into Drive. Pardon my boldness; Palma's enthusiasm is contagious! When Wisejester said it's a "roadblock...for reasons...not apparent at this time" I had to speak up because the reasons are obvious to me! Leo and Ming are right; you'll find a way...you're finding out about a much better way! Much excited about the bad news, KC
