January 1985: The Christmas album "An Old Fashioned Christmas" peaks at U.S. #190.
April 1985: The UK only compilation "Yesterday Once More" is released in the U.S. set to reach U.S. #145 and eventually Double Platinum status.
June 1985: Richard begins work on his first self produced solo album "Time" which is eventually released in 1987.  August 17, 1987: Richard and wife Mary give birth to their first child, daughter Kristi Lynn.
August 1987: Richard's first solo album "Time" is released. The album features vocals by Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Scoot Grimes and of course Richard Carpenter. All the original Carpenters band members play on this album. "Something In Your Eyes" with Dusty Springfield on lead vocals is released as a single. It receives good radio airplay and is a top ten Adult Contemporary hit, but fails to make the Top 100 Singles chart.
October 1987: The single "The Christmas Song / Merry Christmas Darling" is rereleased in the U.S.
October 1987: The A&M compilation "Classics Volume II" is released. Volume I is a compilation of Herb Alpert's hits.
