Yesterday ...
Merry Christmas Darling x 2
I feel blitzed. My Thanksgiving , Black Friday and Black Saturday numbers were high. Sunday (the numbers I report with this post) were back to normal. I wonder if the Carpenters push sales up??

Yesterday I heard "Merry Christmas Darling" once.
Wisejester7... I know what you mean - it seems I heard Carpenters Christmas a little more during that big shopping period... maybe that is so because people were out doing their Christmas shopping - and the Chrismtas music gets people in the mood.

Here is the update as of 1411, Pacific time, Nov. 27: Merry Christmas Darling- 62 (I think we can project a winner) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas- 32 Christmas Song- 26 Sleigh Ride-10 Home For The Holidays-9 Do You Hear What I Hear- 6 I'll Be Home For Christmas- 4 Christmas Waltz-4 Santa Claus Is Coming To Town-2 White Christmas-1
I certainly think you are right- that if certain types of music and groups in particular (maybe including Carpenters) have been shown by studies and research (which has surely been conducted) to increase benevolence and spending, that music will be emphasized.
Though it's still only November, I think we've proven what we knew: that "Merry Christmas Darling" has a rightful place among the most beloved Christmas classics, along with Nat King Cole's rendition of "Christmas Song", Bing Crosby's "White Christmas", etc. But it's great that a number of C's songs are getting significant air play. Are there any other groups or artists so widely represented on radio at Christmas?

Hi O.E....
I think other artists which are widely represented during the Christmas season are Johnny Mathis - several of his Christmas tunes are played on the radio. There's also a good amount of Nat King Cole's tunes being played.
Today I heard several songs in my travels and inside the mall including:
"Merry Christmas Darling" - two times "Home For The Holidays" - one time (in the mall) "White Christmas" - one time (there must be an edited version of this released to radio stations)

Hi all...
Just right now I've heard my favorite again "Home For The Holidays"
- other than "Merry Christmas Darling" - this seems to be the favorite in Southern California - could be it's upbeat somewhat sunshiny feel.

Ya gotta love it. Went to see my mom today, who is in the hospital at the moment. As I leaned over to straighten the covers, or plant a kiss on her cheek or something, Karen Carpenter's sweet voice came over her hospital call system, and began singing that familiar intro - "...Greeting Cards have all been sent..." You know the rest. I turned up the volume, and put the speaker right up to mom's ear. She began to smile (she was pretty out of it), and she said - "You always did love the way she sang, didn't you?" It was a touching moment, for certain. And mom enjoyed hearing Karen sing Merry Christmas Darling, too as she smiled the whole time Karen was singing. So chalk one up for MCD today....it was the radio playing over the hospital's intercom system. Nice.... Tim
