I think I read early in my Carpenter years that Mark Rudolph is a cousin of Karen and Richard. What is his relationship to Richard's wife, Mary?
Does anyone know what Mark is up to these days. He was part of the road crew in the 70's I believe.

Mark Rudolph is Mary's brother. Their mother is Bernice, who is Agnes' sister. This makes Mary and Mark Richard's first cousin. I understand Mary was adopted. Whether this is true or not, it is not illegal for first cousins to marry in California. Contrary to popular belief the children of first cousins do not experience any kinds of birth defects or mental deficiences. It's an "old wives tale" or an urban legend!

Hi Beaner & Rob, Surfing these forums -saw this topic.... Yes -Richard is first cousin to Mark Rudolph ...and Mary related only through adoption to both .....  Sadly Mark Rudolph died of cancer in late 1995 at young age of 42 ....  Peter |

To add here, mom's (Agnes) father side were the Tatums and her mom's mom side were the Rudolphs. Karen knew how to speak dutch/german but not sure if it was from her grandmother Rudolph or her great grandmother Rudolph. Mark was a first cousin and Mary was an adopted first cousin. Karen told me a fuller story in March or April 1979, but I feel that might be too much information and family business should stay family business I feel. For part of what Karen told me, Mark was an only child. Mark's mom was only pregnant once with Mark. There was a car accident that appeared in the papers at the time. Next thing you know Mark had a baby sister without his mom being pregnant. Also according to Karen, one parent died in the accident and the other was in a wheelchair and then passed away either three months or three years later due to complications from the accident. Hoping I didn't say too much as really this stuff should honestly stay family business but also honestly it irks me at times that some 'jerky' people can be so rotten to nice people like Mary and Richard Carpenter and their five children. Remember, they can read what gets posted too and by whom (including me).
