I'm 13 years old.I've been a fan for like a year or so.Other than the Carpenters I like Olivia Newton-John and ELO.I hope to get along with my fellow board members.I'm a member of 2 rival Olivia Newton-John fan clubs,Only Olivia and Forever and Always (I'm also a member of their message board).

Welcome! We all learn a lot from each others Carpenters observations and we look forward to your thoughts. It's great news when a young person comes to appreciate Karen's great gifts. Many of the people on this forum have other music group interests as well, so we are always glad to hear about the other group boards.

Thank you,I was worried that I would in a way start up problems if I mention Forever and Always (the other messageboard that I'm a member of).One of my cats that I was close to died recently and they helped me recover (well not everyone, the person that did not attacked me about how I took care of it when it (the cat) got hit by a car and that user was banned).

Welcome! You will find a lot of great information and opinions about the Carpenters on this board.
It's interesting that you like so many musicians and groups from the 1970's --- Olivia Newton-John, ELO and also John Denver as noted from another discussion thread. How did you first hear about them? Olivia has re-invented her image from country to siren over the years. Is there a particular period of her career or type of songs of hers that especially appeals to you?

Yes,I love her music from the '80's.She did a tribute to Karen on a cd that came out in like 2005 or so,Rainy Days and Mondays. She said that she was nervous whenever she recorded the song.It doesn't sound exactly like Karen's,it is some what perkier that Karen's.A friend of mine on the other messageboard that I go to always claims that he is the "best male seen with Olivia",funny story so this friend of makes this poll about the best male seen with Olivia and Bill (my friend) was in 2nd place,I mean sure he lives like 25 miles from her I just thought it was funny, the two people that voted for him are himself and this other friend of mine that he is very close friends with.

Hi Sunnybunny...
Welcome to you!
It is fantastic that somoeone of your young age does like so much 70's music all the artists you've mentioned are great artists. I love ElO - they had some of the most fantastic music of the entire 70's. some of my favorite songs by Olivia are "Magic", "Every Face Tells A Story", "Don't Stop Believin" and "Let It Shine". John Denver had several great tunes - one of my favorites was a mid to late 70's song called "Looking For Space" and the classic 1975 hit "Calypso".
I find it most interesting that someone of your age can appreciate the Carpenters. Karen has such a deep and rich voice and a lot of their music is dark and intense. At the age of 13 you obviously have a good ear for good music.

Sounds like you have a pretty good collection of Carpenters music going. A few other must haves are the Carpenters' sublime album "Horizon" - this is easily their finest album and another essential is "Karen Carpenter" - Karen's solo album is fantastic.

I'm saving up some money to buy Karen's solo album off of Amazon.I also have some Olivia clippings that Karen is either in or she is mentioned.I have a picture of Olivia at Karen's funeral.I also have Gold,an Old Fashioned Christmas cassette,The Essential Collection box set,and sometimes this week I'll be getting a book called "Yesterday Once More".I also know of this thrift store that sells a lot of Carpenter's records.
