Hi, y'all-- I'm David-- a journalist, author, interior designer....and graduate student at the University of Kentucky. I've been a fan for many, many years. While I am fond of all their music, I probably have played "This Masquerade" the most.
I've quite an extensive knowledge of the Carpenters. Most all of their songs are in my possession--expect those that we can't get yet. (I don't have 35 Gold but I've already got everything on it, except "Rainbow Connection" and "Leave Yesterday Behind").
I have music from all the TV shows....all the commercials Karen and Richard did...public service announcements like The Humane Society....so many radio interviews that I haven't even heard them all yet. In addition, I have discs of many, many of their live concerts, including Karen's last public appearance at Long Beach...in Holland, Japan, The Palladium....assorted other live shows....a rare concert of them in a Connecticut club in the 1970's....on and on...(I'd like to give credit to fellow Carpenter fan Jayne for all she purchased off Ebay and sent MY way.)
Looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say about the Carpenters on this forum.

Hi! Where are you in KY? My wife has relatives there - Henderson, other places. If you don't have "Leave Yesterday Behind" you should get a copy of Gold. I got my copy yesterday, and it's great. I have everything that is on there, but love the compilation the way Richard has it set up. I found the liner notes especially interesting - for example, Richard says he wishes they had never covered "kind of hush." I'm not sure I understand why - it's a great cover. Leave Yesterday Behind is very reminiscent of "For All We Know" - almost has the same intro - but it's a cute song, and of course, Karen's reading of it is excellent. I've got most of their recordings now I think, too. I have the 4 disc set "From the Top", then my wife got me a 4'disc collection last year, and it seems like I have everything in between.....All the jingles, etc. I'd love to find videos of their TV specials. Especially the one of KC playing the "Strike Up The Band" drum solo that they recorded on "live at the pallidium." Does ANYONE have such a video recording? I remember watching her play it on the show oh, so many years ago, and it was awesome. Would love to see it again. There is a glimpse of it on the DVD, Close To You, but not the whole thing. Let me hear from you. Hope to talk again, soon. Tim

Thanks for the warm welcome, all. I am looking forward, myself, to some interesting Carpenters' conversations. And yes, I still do have a few Carpenters songs out there I haven't heard...anxious to hear them ALL. I live in Lexington--practically right on...at the edge of the University of Kentucky campus. Louisville is about an hour northwest of here. Lexington is known as the "Horse Capital of the World." And Cheryl...yes, it is interesting that we all landed at this site at the same time. I've never believed much in coincidences. (So, Cheryl, why don't you consider joining me at my other forum--the one that indulges our "other passion": Prophecies Registry? I know you will be intrigued!) David
