Hi everyone - Wow - I've been hoping for years there was a site out there like this one where fans like me who so admire both Karen and Richard could talk with other admiring fans of theirs. Just a little background info about me - 50 years old, male, businessman, happily married for 29 years, two great kids, and one son-in-law. Love Carpenters and Billy Joel!!! Got to see KC and RC X2 in concert, which was wonderful - and they gave me autographs at concert #1. I'm happy to be a part of this forum - anxiouis to talk with other happy Carpenters fans. Their music is the finest there is - pure, and lovely. YesterdayOnceMore ;

Noticed you said you also like Billy Joel (one of my faves also), did you know that his band backed Karen on her solo album?

Thanks for the great Banner Rick - Yes, I did know that Phil Ramone produced Billy's Band backing KC on her solo effort. In fact, Itchie Ramone sent me Karen's Solo CD as a gift for a letter I'd written to her (Itchie) a couple of years before it was released, after the book "The Untold Story" was given to me by my wife for Christmas. I had thought it so great that Itchie befriended Karen during her stay in NYC, and that it was so sad that Karen's solo effort hadn't been released, because I knew it was undoubtedly wonderful just because Karen sang and Phil produced, but to have Billy's band backing her...well, that was just too cool. It was wonderful of Itchie and Phil to send me the CD with their compliments. A highlight of my life, for sure. And thank you for the welcome, Alan. I hope to be talking with a lot of you, soon. ;D

Thought I'd better clarify - my name is Tim, and I wasn't apparently logged on when I replied to the posts by Rick and Alan, so I had to sign it as Tim, rather than YesterdayOnceMore. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi Smoothie Thanks for the post. I think this is going to be great fun. Tell me, how did you get to be a Carpenters fan and what attracts you to their music. For me, it's the harmony. I love it so much - I'm a harmony kind o guy. I fell in love with it from the start with Close to You, and went back for all that came before. And, of course, have everything that I know of, since.
Let me hear from you. Glad to be among fans and friends. Have a great one. Tim

Hi Rick - you're right - nothing like those stacked harmonies of Karen and Richards. I've always wanted to do that kind of recording myself - well, in fact, did one song that I wrote for my wife. Because recording studios are so high, I did it rather quickly (all one afternoon) and didn't get to polish it, but I got the idea of how it was done, and it was so much fun. Tell me a bit about you, as the administrator of this forum. How did you get to be familiar with K and R's work? How old are you? What made you start this forum? I'm sure happy you did. Hoping to hear from you!!! Tim

Hi Tim, I just turned 44. I've been captivated by Karen's voice since 1971 when I was 11. It was "Bless the Beasts and children" which really caught my attention. I started this forum and also the website The Carpenters Online www.carponline.bravepages.com in November 2002. I started it because I had another website which was a whole lot of work - too much work - so I had to give that up due to time constraints. I enjoyed the whole web building process so I decided to start one on my favorite group. This site takes much less time than my first site and I'm more interested in this one. I'm sure glad you enjoy the forum and the site. Several people have helped to make this an interesting forum. People such as Cam83, Smoothie, Christian, CarpentersFan2003 and so on. I am very grateful to these people for their great ideas and input.

Hi Rick - thanks for your message. I will have to say that even if this site is less work, it's still a LOT of work, and I truly appreciate all the time you must have put into it to get it started, and to keep it going. I was a Junior in HS when I heard them for the first time - I heard the end of Close To You on the radio while on my way to work one evening...well, that moment was a real turning point for me. Being a self-taught musician, I found that group, whoever they were, to be the best thing I'd heard in pop culture!!! That SOUND! How incredible was THAT??? I found out who it was, and have been a tried and true fan ever since. I'm 50, married 28 years, with two great children who from the womb grew up listening to and loving Karen and Rich's music! I have sung "Only Just Begun" probably at thousands of weddings over the years, and never tire of it. I thought for a long time I was alone, though, in my love for K and R's fabulous HARMONIES. But I've learned there are many who feel the same way as me. That makes me happy. Thanks for the info on you - I wish you the very best, and all in the forum, too. Tim TEXTTEXTTEXT

Tim TEXTTEXTTEXTThe Carpenters' sound is incredible. I truly feel they belong in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. You are a singer, that is great! Other than "We've Only Just Begun" what are some of your favorite songs to perform? Do you do performances other than weddings? Do you have any original songs?

Hi Rick - oh yeah, there are a lot of Carpenters tunes that I like to perform - my all time favorite to perform is Masquerade. I love playing it - I'm a keyboardist, too - I love singing it - I just love everything about that one. Here are some of my other favorites to sing/play - Top Of The World - Rainy Days and Mondays/Sailin' on the Tide - Boat to Sail - Breakin' up is Hard to do - You're the One - Superstar - Desperado - Let me be the one - caught between goodbye and I love you - only yesterday - yesterday once more - song for you - now - oh man, the list is ENDLESS. I enjoy each of them for different reasons. Some are more difficult to "pull off" than others because of the sound necessary - sometimes I can sequence my k eyboard with voice tracks to fill-in the gaps of not having more vocals than just me. Other times, it just doesn't sound good enough, and so I just don't do certain songs. I hope this finds you well. Tim
