Hey, everybodies : I highly recommend the aussie compilation Startrak. High level and clean sound, and a very nice track selection. My other favorite compilation is the japanese Treasures. What about yours?.

I've seen Star Traks. I passed it up because I thought it was a karoake collection. Are there any remixes on it? How about pictures or liner notes?

YES !!!. It's Going to Take is noticeable different in the bass line and I notice that Love Is Surrender has a good "I don't know what" sound (maybe new drums recorded). Inside a two leaves (4 pages) booklet with photos of the others albums from the same collection (Herb Alpert, Sergio Mendes, etc. ). No liner notes. No extra Carpenters photos (only in the CD front).

I don't own "Reflections" or "Sweet,Sweet Smile"(the same CD). Can you tell me about it ?( if it has photos or something extra, but I know it has liner notes by Ray Coleman).

Another excelent compilation is the england CD Treasures. It has two page of liner notes written by John Howard(very good) , and a superb remix of Road Ode, especially the new keyboard line at the end of the song. No extra photo, no lyrics. A nice tracks selection.

The ultimate compilation for me is the 6 cd set called Sweet Memories issued in Japan for mail order (now out of print). The sound quality is unsurpassed!

TEXTTEXT :)I have the Sweet Sweet Smile (which I think is called Reflections too) and it's wonderful. The one I have I think is a Swedish import. The inside liner just tells the songs and who sings them and etc...no words or anything else. I chose it mainly because I had not had a recording or heard the song Eve, All of my Love, nor Beechwood songs before. It also has Reason to Believe and Maybe it's You which are 2 of my all time favorites also. I also wanted to comment on things discussed the other day about the Japan live cd and video I have. It's great too of course. The cd I have and video are somewhat different. There are more songs on the cd than the video. The cd has the song Hurting Each Other, Runaway, Sh-boom,and Daddy's Home on it. On the cd, Richard introduces the members of the band whereas Karen does in the video. There is much more of the crazy guitar music on the cd for Goodbye to Love than the video too. Anyway, both are great. As far as record vinyl albums, I have "Close To You", A kind of Hush, The singles from 1969-1973, and Horizon. For some reason probably cuz it got ripped or wore out over the yrs., I don't have the inner sleeve for the Close To You album, instead I made a cover for the record as I did for several (various artists) of my albums out of typing paper. I wish I had that inner sleeve. I didn't know until I heard Karen tell it on the live in Japan cd, that the two of them worked at Disneyland once upon a time! anyway,..and so it goes...

The inner sleeve of the first three LP's didn't have lyrics (or extra Carpenters photo). Strangely, the Lovelines LP didn't bring lyrics too(as said Rick Henry in other post). I own the Live in Japan CD you mention and it's great(Leader of the Pack song is my favorite), but I don't own the Live at Budokan video because is an imported and difficult article to get(it's out of print). The Coleman book talk extensively about the time at Disneyland(and about Mr. Guder too).

:)thank you Federiko..for the info about the album sleeves. My 1st Carpenters album was "Close to You", and one of the very first albums of any kind I got. I was about 13. I did read The Unauthorized story of the Carp. but it's been quite some time back and I may need to read the others that have come out since that one. although, I put smoothie as a nickname, I can just as easily be known as katt.

I believe the Live In Japan CD and the Live At Budokan video are different because each is a compilation of parts from different concerts throughout the entire tour. Neither is a recording of one entire concert.

I do not own the "Live In Japan" video, but it's on top of my wishlist. I'm hoping to find it somewhere on DVD.

Live in Japan and Budokan are indeed different concerts.
Live in Japan is a mixture of different concerts on one of Carpenters' many tours to Japan. It was issued in VHS, LD, and CD, but not DVD.
Budokan, on the other hand, is a single complete concert at, where else, Japan's famed Budokan. It was issued in VHS, LD, and DVD, but not CD.
Several other Carpenters' concerts in Japan are available in bootleg CDs. The sound quality varies, the songs are more or less the same. However, because they were performed live, there are many variations in Karen's renditions and Richard's arrangements.
For some reason, Karen always had a tendency to sing We've Only Just Begun, Superstar, and Yesterday Once More differently from concert to concert, but Top of the World and Close to You would get identical treatments.

Talking about compilations, how about an Interpretations volume 2.
