So happy that you extended this one, Rick. I'm a big admirer of Karen's solo work. Of course, I'm fond of the incredibly great work of the three Billy Joel band members. Phil Ramone seemed to never miss, and Rod Temperton did one stellar job in writing the "intense" vocal parts I think Rick referred to them as, for Karen. It still just blows me away when I picture Karen in the vocal booth, singing along with herself, by doing one of those vocal parts that parallels another, only one note away, in some cases (lots of maj 7th stuff going on). That is so, so difficult to do. A person has to be so focused on the job at hand; otherwise, it simply couldn't be done. Karen seemed to do it FLAWLESSLY. I've been listening to this masterpiece. Wow, what a talented lady....and though I've always known this, I have rediscovered it, yet one more time. Perhaps someday this solo effort will get the true recognition it deserves for the amazing compilation it is.

After three years of regularly listening to The Carpenters, I am of the opinion that Karen's solo album is every bit as good as anything else the group recorded, and it is a tremendous thing that it is available.

What I think is most remarkable about KC's solo album is that listening to "Remember when loving took all night" (which is my definitely my favourite) for instance, you can hear the voice of a young woman - the young woman she was, being 29/30 when she recorded the songs.
I have to say that sometimes, listening to songs like "Ticket to ride" or "Crescent Noon" (songs they recorded about 10 years earlier when she was even much younger!) I tend to forget, that there's a young girl singing..
Don't get me wrong, I especially like the deep and sometimes sad side of her voice, but I also totally love the fresh sound of her voice on her solo album.

'Joey' said it better than I ever could have, therefore my reply is to be placed under his writing with a " ". Thanks.
