;DSeeing that Universal Records is only interested in the release of Carpenters compilations, then, I can do a little help... Why not another compilation with these titles? : "Richard Carpenter : Singer" or "Richard Carpenter Solos" The selections: 1.Turn Away ( Spectrum demo) 2.Your Wonderful Parade (Spectrum demo or an alternate version). 3.Get Together (bis). 4.What's the use(bis). 5.Nowadays clancy can't even sing(bis). 6.I kept on loving you.(alternate version) 7.Druscilla Penny (av). 8.Saturday (av). 9.Piano Picker (av). 10.Fool me (Buried Treasure article). 11.I don't want my arms around you (BTa). 12.Love as old as the heart (BTa). 13.Slaughter on 10th avenue (bonus track)

I would like to see a compilation of Jazz tunes including songs like: Another Song This Masquerade All I Can Do B'wana She No Home Ordinary Fool A Song For You From This Moment On and others Some of the RCA Richard Carpenter Trio instrumentals could be included. The smooth jazz sound is very popular right now with artists like Sade and Diana Krall.

[shadow=green,left,300]My idea of a desirable compilation would be one of songs which were good enough to be released as a single but weren't, these songs would be on it: All Of My Life Maybe It's You Let Me Be The One A Song For You This Masquerade Desperado Happy Can't Smile Without You I Just Fall In Love Again Two sides Ordinary Fool Where Do I Go From Here? Tryin' To Get the Feeling Again Rainbow Connection[/shadow]

But Rick Henry, remember that the majority of those songs were released in singles as flip sides.

Hi Federico. This may be true, but each of these songs was also worthy of being released as an A-side.
It's too bad that Universal isn't promoting the new "Perform Carpenter" disc at all. It seems only Carpenters fans are aware of it's existence. I think if Universal were to put a little effort into it, The Carpenters could do pretty well. Look at "Love Songs", Polygram had a TV commercial to promote it and it ended up spending 25 weeks on Billboards top 200 and was certified GOLD.

Hi, Rick Henry!. I understand that the disc jockeys had and have the opportunity, according with requests of radio listenings, to promote any side, wether A or B. Bless the Beasts and children and This Masquerade get enough air play and both of them were flip sides.

If you don't know it, A&M Japan released a two cd box set of flip sides of Carpenters singles titled Treasures. I own it and it's great!. It has a deluxe double booklet (one in english, the other in japanese) with liner notes and lyrics.

:oAs I recall "You" was a pretty popular non-single song for the carpenters. I remember hearing it on the radio and I saw sheet music for it back in 1977. I also remember "I Can Dream Can't I" was played on the radio a few times.

Isn't it one of the first compilations Richard remixed album cuts for?

Another C's track I'd hear from time to time was Richard's, Saturday. I heard it used as a TV theme for a Saturday afternoon talk show.

I'd like to see a compilation of Carpenters songs that would tell a story about Karen's quest for a perfect soul mate, from beginning to end, covering all the ups and downs of a relationship.
The story would begin with "All of My Life," and fans could be asked to vote for either a happy or a sad ending.
I'd title the CD "Parallel Lives."

[glow=purple,2,300]That could end up being a great compilation. It would be a concept album of sorts. I vote for a happy ending. It would be happy - yet bittersweet. My choice for song to close "Parallel Lives" would be "Now". What would go in between?[/glow]

1. "All of my life"
2. "Only Yesterday"
After all the searching, all the heartaches, the ship has finally come from rough seas....."I've found my home here in your arms...." What more can one ask for?

Maybe this compilation can have 16 songs so the story can be told completely.
How about an unreleased solo track like I Do It For Your Love?

Hi karenforever I really like your idea for a compilation which follows Karen's quest for the perfect soulmate.
I agree with Rick Henry about a happy ending.
"All Of My Life" is a good opener and "Now" a great closer. I think "Only Yesterday" should be a little further in like possibly track 7 since it is more of a transitional song from dark to light. I would probably include "It's Going To Take Sometime" or "Goodbye To Love" as track 2 or 3. Get the heartbreak early in the set and work toward a blissful relationship.
although I like "I Do It For Your Love" I don't think it's a good choice for this compilation. I would choose "Love Making Love To You" which would come somewhere after "Only Yesterday."

Hi Boat2Sail I completely agree that "Only Yesterday" is a transitional song, so it should come somewhere later.
Let's construct one possible story line:
[Where is this boy I am searching for?]
1. "All of My Life"
[Losing hope......]
2. "I Need to Be in Love"
[and giving up.....]
3. "Goodbye to Love"
[but wait, there you are......]
4. "Only Yesterday"
[and I know you are the one.....]
5. "One Love"
[hope you feel the same.....]
6. "Let Me be the One"
[although you keep making me wait....]
7. "Please Mr. Postman"
[but I think I've got you....]
8. "I Have You"
[courtship follows....]
9. "Touch Me When We're Dancing"
[and love grows....]
10. "Kiss Me the Way You Did Last Night"
[and there's no turning back.....]
11. "Because We Are in Love"
[Alas, newly weds......]
12. "We've Only Just Begun"
[counting the blessing with a tinge of apprehension....]
13. "For all We Know"
[but all doubt washed away by marital bliss......]
14. "Happy"
[first signs of trouble......]
15. "Love Me for What I am"
[and getting worse....]
16. "Hurting Each Other"
[thinking about leaving....]
17. "Caught Between Goodbye and I Love You"
[filled with uncertainties.....]
18. "Where Do I Go From Here"
19. ?
20. "Now"
To go from 18 to 20, one needs one (or two) songs to provide turning points. Suggestions?
Of course, the entire story could be constructed in many different ways. It would be fun to compare variations.

Track 19 could possibly be "If We Try" or "If I Had You".
