My album of the day is AS TIME GOES BY .
Here we get a nice live version of AND WHEN HE SMILES. Plus, there are the medleys/duets with Perry Como and Ella F.

"As Time Goes By" is a wonderful collection of songs. I mostly enjoy "I Got Rhythm", "Leave Yesterday Behind", "Nowhere Man" and "Rainbow Connection".
My album of the day is the sublime "Horizon" - I took a short trip a few days ago and along with me came "Horizon". I listened to most of it. I played and thoroughly enjoyed "Desperado" - my second favorite track from the album - of course "Only Yesterday" is my fave. "desperado" always manages to capture me and sned that "chill factor" each time I hear it. I also listened to "Only Yesterday" - which is a fabulously produced song. I really love the vocal mix in this one. Then I listened to "(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You" about three times in a row - right now this is my song of choice from "Horizon" - what a great song.

My Album of the Day choice today is Karen Carpenter's solo CD, Karen Carpenter. The WOW vocals in this one are too much....just amazing, one after another. Then there are those tunes like Last One Singing the Blues - All Because of You, etc. A great CD in every respect. Tim

My Album of the day will be the first full album the Carpenters recorded and of course that is Offering. This record has such a charm for me I love it. The record definately reflects the decade in which it was recorded the 60's but thats one of its charms for me. I love Karens drumming on this record every trrack shows how gifted she was as a drummer as well as a vocalist. I also love listening to a young Karen singing on this record her voice and vocal style was still developing at this point and later Karen would express her dissatisfaction at the way some of the track sounded and her desire to rerecord them some of which she did I personally loved her vocals and the songs flaws and all. I also love the things they were trying to do on this record you could see the beginning of what was to come. I am glad Richard chose to release this dispite it "not being where he was muisically" at the time it was released. It was a throwback to an earlier phase in the Carpenters career the sound was more dated and not as timeless as later releases nor was it as commercial. This record is still one of my favorite Carpenters records and always takes me back the the pre hit days when they were just a band/duo looking for a hit or record contract. I love this record!

I'm with you on this one Enigma... "Offering" is an outstanding album. I enjoy it's somewhat experimental sense. Many of the songs were very original and played with different textures, rhythms and sounds such as "All I Can Do", "Your Wonderful Parade" and the fabulous "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing". And yes it was great to hear Karen drumming on every song. I wish she would have been able to drum on all the albums. Hal Blaine and Cubby O'Brien were good - but Karen was much better then either of them. A+

LOVELINES is my album of the day. There are so many beautiful songs packed onto this album. Right now I'm listening to 'You're The One'. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Following in Enigma's footsteps my album of the day is "offering". I really love this oddball collection of songs. It has your standard ballads such as "All Of My Life", "Someday" and the dark "Eve". Then it also shows a very musical side of Carpenters with songs as diverse as "Your Wonderful Parade", "All I Can Do" and one of my favorites "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing".

I've got tons of C's music on my computer. I'm now far enough down the list to be well entrenched in Christmas music. My Album of the Day is An Old Fashioned Christmas.
My song of the day is from this album.

Continuing with "Offering" - my album of the day for the past few days... I really love the song "Eve" - Karen gave us a flawless performance with that deep and dark voice from the basement. She had so much depth and emotion at the young age of nineteen.

My album of the day today is the wonderful Karaoke album that Richard Carpenter produced for us. I didn't have this one in my catalogue until Jim made it for me, about a year or so ago. I love listening to this one, because I can hear all of the wonderful rich harmonies, and so much more. For as complicated as some of these masterpieces seemed, vocally, they were quite simple. Not that it was "easy" - there's a big difference in my mind. But, for all we "hear" in a Carpenters tune, it's Karen's main vocal that gives the song the major punch. Until I heard this version without any lead vocals, I thought there was much more harmony parts (meaning, that the backing vocals "came in" a lot) but they are intricately placed throughout the song for maximum effect...and oh, so carefullydone. Bravo to Richard for letting us hear this wonderful version of these magnficent tunes. Each one is a treasure, and getting to hear them in this fashion just enhances the listen when the songs are heard with everything in its place. Tim

What is the name of the Karaoke album? Is this an e-bay type album? It sounds interesting (the backing vocal harmonies and musical lay out) and I would like have a copy for my collection. Any help in steering me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

There are other karaoke albums out there which are poorly done - but this one is the official release which was mixed and mastered by Richard himself. This is now on my wishlist.

Today...HORIZON is my Album of the Day. I know this is a favorite of many on this forum. This album reminds me of the Moody Blues "Days of Future Passed"...going through a day (or the seasons) in your life.
Have you ever noticed that the songs alternate between happy(up) and sad(down)?
The 'day' is bookended with Aurora (the start of the day..."morning opens quietly..") and ends with Eventide (..."weary to be home again among the faces of my friends the day is done...").
Aurora..."a shadow vision over me"
Only Yesterday ...we're 'up'..."the best is about to be" ** "free as a song"
Desperado ...we're 'down'... "some fine things have been laid upon your table but you only want the ones that you can't get" ** "you ain't gettin' no younger" ** "freedom that's just some people talkin"**"you're losing all your highs and lows"
Please Mr. Postman..we're 'up' again...the words aren't up, but HOPE is definitely there ... "why don't you check it and see one more time for me ya gotta wait a minute, wait a minute"**"come on deliver the letter the sooner the better"
I Can Dream Can't I...'down' again, gently ...dreamy interlude to break up our day (the stuff of daydreams)..."like your heart and mine there is no sweet conclusion"**"you'll never belong to me but I can dream can't I"
Solitaire...still 'down'..."a lonely man who lost his love through his indifference"**"a heart that cared that went unshared until it died"
Happy...yep we're 'up'! and after 2 'down' songs in a row we are ready..."happy is the way I'm feeling"**"if this is luck then let it ride, if it's the stars they're surely on my side"**"there's a freedom here that's new to me"
(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You...here we are 'caught between' the 2 emotions..."never the same always hard to believe"**"never knowing quite where I stand"**"falling both ways no where to land"**"this double life you've handed me is like the Devil and the deep blue sea"
Love Me For What I Am...an 'up' song...there is certainty in what must be done..."I must be free"**"I won't pretend to keep you"**"love can never be designed"
Eventide..."I'm followed by the afterglow"

Wow! Wisejester7... Outstanding comments on the album "Horizon". With this I must also chose "Horizon" as my album of the day. Lately I've been hooked on the song "(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You" - what a wonderful song - I really like the country styled guitar work on this one. Though my favorite non-single song on the album is easily "Desperado" - I love this song and still feel it should have been a single - it would have been a good sized hit. Of course "Only Yesterday" is my favorite from the album - actually it's my all-time favorite Carpenters overall.

My AOTD is Gold 35th Anniversary collection.
Every now and again I like to listen to this overall perspective that ranges from "(They Long to Be) Close to You" through "Karen's Theme". I think of it as a time capsule of sorts...these are among the BEST musical years I have experienced.

My AOTD is MADE IN AMERICA.
With songs in the ilk of Those Good Old Dreams, (Want You) Back In My Life Again, When You've Got What It Takes, ...well, I could go on. This album has some strong, strong songs on it. Whether the songs are happy, sad or somewhere in between this album is a winner all the way.
