Hi All, I am now listening to the disco song MY BODY KEEPS CHANGING MY MIND. What I love about this song, is the beginning beat, and the horns in the background and the flourishes. Then Karen enters in. Her honey-like vocals having fun. I love how the background harmonies seem to mimic Karen's lead vocals... My Body says love you to tonight(My Body...love...tonight!)...etc. The vocals are just breathtakingly beautiful. It amazes me at how much work Karen did for this album! It shows! I think, if Karen could know that her solo album was eventually released, at how many love her work. This was a great artist! With so much of her talent untapped. I also enjoy the part...WHEN IT COMES TO DANCING AND WE FLLLLLYYYYYYYY TOGETHER ACROSS THE FLOOR...!! Just heavenly. I love how she glides on the word FLY! Amazing! What a fun, danceable song!
My thoughts, Cameron

I totally agree, Cam.
I've said the exact same thing in another thread this past summer..., the *I just want to flyyyyy...* part gives me the chills..., among other parts.
When I do compilation CDs for my friends this song comes right on top..., and it's on my Top 5 or Top 10 in many categories for me..., it's the most groovin' song Karen has ever did and, to me, if it was released in '79 or '80 it would have been a classic just like *I Will Survive* or *Dancing Queen*, for example. *% I couldn't agree with you both more. Well stated. This is just such a wonderful uplifting song. And (here I go again) all those voices of KC singing all those notes. My gosh, how long must it have taken her to do all those parts. I truly enjoy this song, and when I heard it for the first time, I thought it would have been a big hit just like those other disco tunes. Karen's delivery is right on....and as you said so well, Cam, I think it shows that she's having FUN singing this song. I think that is one of the things I like about it so much is that it shows off that Karen Carpenter voice NOT found on those gutsy ballads, but the one she could use to really belt out a melody and fllllyyyyyyy with it. Great, great song. ~Best. Tim

I do not totally agree with all that has been said but MBKCIM is one of the stronger tracks off of this album. I do not like disco but Karen does such a good job here I can let this one slide it does not give me a chill factor at all however. I would have loved to see it released in 1979 just to see the look on Richards face when it became the hit I am sure it would have been. I would not go as far as to put it in Dancing Queens league I do not think it would have been #1 but it would probably make the top ten we'll never know. Cam I do hope Karen knows how much joy her solo record has brought me and others I said it before and I will say it again I consider it a gift from Karen to me and all her fans and I LOVE THIS RECORD!!

@@ I love "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind". It's not my favorite from the solo album, but still a very good song. I remember when I first heard it on "From The Top" - I was blown away. I think that if there were to have been a #1 from the album (had it been released in 1980) it would have been "Making Love In The Afternoon" - that is just such a strong song and very in style for 1980.

Absolutely Rick by far that is my favorite song off of Karen's solo material and with Peter Cetera's contributions I do not think it could have gone wrong. As I said before this song ()MLITA) has got me going from the first time I heard it

The *From The Top* version of *My Body Keeps Changing My Mind* has bad reverb settings..., too much of it, it just don't fit..., the '96 solo version is the best.
So, okay, this is the *My Body Keeps Changing My Mind* thread and people comes, again, with the *Making Love In The Afternoon* preference..., hmmm..., okay, I've already knowned you guys love that song, but, I guess it's good for the new members to see what's your preference, cool.
To me, My Body Keeps Changing My Mind is the best song of Karen's Solo album..., If We Try is second. [glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland Chayer[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]

And that's what's wonderful about it. :)We all have different likes and dislikes. But we're also friends. :)Any comments I make here are always in a friendly manner. As for "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind" I like the song quite a bit. The main reasons I think "Making Love In The Afternoon" could have been a big hit is because first off it has the power of two superstars - Peter Cetera and Karen Carpenter. And also as 1980 was coming around the disco craze was fading and the power-pop / new wave era was in full bloom. "Making Love..." seems to fit in very well with what was popular in 1980. I do like the mix of "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind" from KC's solo album much more so than Richard's mix which was included on "From The Top". The mix on Karen's solo is a bit grittier. All in all though I am very partial to karen's solo album. it's one of my top 5 favorite discs by Carpenters or Karen Carpenter. I may even be so bold as to say I like KC solo even more than "A Song For You". - boy I know I'm in for some criticism here.

But I do know it still sells to this day. Not in big numbers, but it's still selling. I see it in several music stores here in Southern California. Many internet music sites keep it in their catalog. So someone is buying Karen's solo. I'm going to check into this for you.

^^ I'm listening to it right now and it's just such a great song. Karen's eastern accent is so telltale on the word "Dancin'" - the bridge seems as if it would be tough to sing the individual parts on - the chord structure is great, but not the easiest to keep in tune when trying to sing a major 7th construction. I know Richard loves a major 7th chord, and that KC was not a stranger to it, but the instruments (I'm listening to the From The Top version) seem to sort of get in the way of her vocals - making it twice as difficult to do those notes - yet she does it with finesse and style, just like always. " "...when it gets to love, I'm feelin' so good........) ~Best, Tim

This song is so great. But, what is eastern accent?

Hi Ming, I think, because Karen came from Connecticutt, she was from the EAST part of United States, so maybe some of the words she pronounced, would have had an EASTERN accent.

^^ Thanks, Cam. Yes, Ming, that's exactly what I meant. There's a bit of an accent Karen has that I notice from time to time, what with me being from the Midwest area of the US - it's a bit of a different pronounciation, that's all. I find it "enduring." ~Best, Tim

@@ I love Karen's slight East Coast accent. Anyway I decided to take a listen to "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind". It really is a great feel good song. Somehow even with this song a somewhat innocent side of Karen seems to come through. The instrumentation is great. It's very dynamic in it's rhythm and pace. I remember being completely excited when I finally heard the song in 1991 when I purchased "From The Top". "Still Crazy After All these Years" was also equally exciting as I heard that one for the first time also on "From The Top". I love the rhythmic groove in "Still Crazy...". Paul simon's recording is great, but Karen's version is somewhat more chic and stylish. It's hard for me to talk about one song from the solo album and not bring up another. I mean Karen's solo album is such an excellent work.
