LITTLE ALTAR BOY is such a joy to listen to. I always feel, that this would be linked to such standards that Karen recorded...SOLITAIRE, AVE MARIA, and this one. You just listen and can hear the unique quality in her voice. It truly is an instrument(as Barbra Streisand said) and honed to the highest possible degree. I love when she sings, "What must I do to be holy like you..."...with such a dramatic wording on the word WHAT...to the ending..."little altar boy, please let me hear you PRAYYYYYYYYY!" Just stunning! What a wonderful combination...lyrics and music.

Richard says it's his favorite vocal performance of Karen's and I would have to agree. It is so pure and spiritual. It definitely takes you to another place.

When Karen goes sacred (as opposed to secular) she really touches some deep spiritual places. You 'feel' her emotions!

I was really excited to see today's post about this song, as it is included on one of the discs of "From the Top". which I've been listening to lately. I couldn't agree more with you that this is a great spiritual, emotional work- you can just feel Karen's heart in it. I'm delighted and not too surprised to read here that it is Richard's favorite of Karen's performances.

I cannot even begin to express the depth of emotion I feel when I listen to Karen's vocal on " Little Alter Boy". I've heard it hundreds of times throughout the years, and each time I hear it, I feel as if she is sitting right there by my side, and praying out loud. For herself. For everyone. Her reading of this lyric is so intimate. Almost too personal. Richard has given us something we will cherish forever. Thank you, Richard ~ for capturing this most sacred session. Sincerely, magiclamp

Yes, "Little Altar Boy" is one of the most beautiful and personal songs I've ever heard. Karen really put every bit of feeling and emotion she has into this song. I love it.
PS11932... If you don't own the Carpenters "Christmas Collection" you should buy it now. It includes both their famous "Christmas Portrait" album and the posthumous release "An Old Fashioned Christmas". If you love "Little Altar Boy" you will also love "He Came Here For Me" from "An Old Fashioned Christmas".

Rick, Thanks very kindly for "The Christmas Collection" referral and link- it surely seems like a great deal and I will plan to get it. (After the great endorsements you and many others gave to "Horizon" I just got that ((through the site connection)) in June, and it has quickly become a favorite.) Can't say often enough how much I appreciate all the work you put into The Forum and the heart of helping others that abounds in you. O.E.
