Hello to all! Hope you enjoy the MERRY CHRISTMAS DARLING forum. Cameron came up with the idea, because The Carpenters Christmas music is such a wonderful part of the season and is always a pleasure to listen to no matter what time of the year it is.

Hi All, Christmas has got to be one of my favorite times of the year...The music, the food, the atmosphere, goodwill and love, the true reason of Jesus birth...and the Carpenters Christmas potpourri of wonderful holiday songs that are now classic. She really loved Christmas and it showed in her tv appearances related to Christmas and on her 2 Christmas albums...what a voice she had...and it added to the holidays. I could NEVER go without her voice during the Holiday season...It would almost be sacreligious...a travesty. She adds that extra dimension, much warmth, love...that comfort...like a cozy duvet quilt, a roaring, crackling fire, a hot cup of cider or hot chocolate, a piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream...and with her songs playing in the background add to a beautiful magical night...

hi everyone...I love Christmas too mainly, because I like to get together with all my family..mostly my bro. and sister and their grown kids when and if they come. I think it was only 2 yrs. ago I bought a cassette of "A Christmas Portrait" by our favorite duo. It is the one time of yr. that the radio stations around here play Carp. music and for Christmas, usually I hear "There's No Place Home for the Holidays" and of course "Merry Ch. Darling." No matter what song it is holiday or not, Karen is the greatest. She sings from her heart always and effortlessly. You can tell from her voice that really means what she's singing. I recall the Christmas show they had where she had the white furry coat with the fur all around her face and the old fashion looking hand muff. She was graceful as she walked around and sang. I think mostly she enjoyed wearing t-shirts rather than fancy stuff, but she enjoyed those shows no matter how she dressed. That type of furry coat around her gorgeous face reminds me of the one in the movie Dr. Zvagio (sp? :)with Omar Shariff and Geraldine Chaplin. Geraldine wore a similar furry coat with the white fur around her face. I fell in love with that movie the first time I saw it and HAD to HAVE the soundtrack and a coat with the furry hood at that time ! Anyway, I know Richard and his family must really miss Karen. As fans we do too, but Christmas time reminds us that we all live on one planet and all can share good things with each other. The thing is is that no matter where you are in a crowded store or at work , or listening to the radio, when Karen starts to sing, most folks know her voice and will stop and listen.

Well said smoothie. I was listening to the two disc Christmas Collection set. Karen's voice really is absolutely wonderful. She is perfect for the season. Her voice rings crystal clear with purity and sincerity. I especially like "there's No Place Like Home for The Holidays", it has that country feel like "Top Of The World" or "Those Good Old Dreams".

Hi! Absolutely...I loved when I was young and we had real tree and those colored bubbly lights ..the ones with water in them that when on bubble. Christmas is great when there are children around because they are really vibrant and so thrilled about it all. I know that if Karen had lived, she would probably be having some headaches because of teenage kids of her own. She was a kid at heart herself.I love all those songs.

I can't believe I haven't contributed to this area yet. I'll think of something when I get a moment.
Look to the left and it is clear that I love their Christmas work.
So what is the best source for getting their Christmas specials on tape or dvd?
Most of you seem to heard and seen a lot of their material that I've never heard/seen. (and I want to)

(and I want to) I've seen some of the television specials listed on Ebay. I haven't seen them available on DVD only on video. Eventullay I will purchase copies of them, I haven't seen the specials since they were first televised.

I love that a local station has already started playing Christmas music all day, 24-7. When I started the car to get to work, the 1970 version of "Merry Christmas Darling" was playing. What a great way to start off the work day!

That is a nice way to start the day. Merry Christmas Darling and Home For The Holidays seem to be the most played in Orange County, CA

I have also been hearing "Sleigh Ride" quite a bit on the radio. I hear Karen's voice, smile, and reach for the volume to turn it up

I hate that Christmas is only a week a way. How am I going to get all my Christmas listening in by then? I usually listen until the first part of January and then I put it away until October...

I am not too into Christmas, Have had alot of unfun things happen at Christmas time. But I do Love to listen to The Carpenters, They are so Timeless and So, So Classic.
I get kinda sad when I hear the song, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Because what I am thinking of is....... Oh Karen I wish you could be Home and with us too.
I am so happy that we have all of the current music that we do have. Oh they are so classic. I will always keep them forever in my heart.TEXT

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
The Carpenters are seasonal year round... I play my Karen and Richard holiday CDs just as many times as I do the others ones. I unashamedly wept the very first time I heard "Little Altar Boy" many years ago...and it still gives me goosebumps to this day, as does the Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria."
There is a seller on eBay who has absolutely fabulous "non-official" Carpenters CDs on a regular basis...I just received a holiday live compilation today entitled "Christmas Together Again." It is superb, and if you have an open mind and can get past the numbers with Kristy McNichol and Harvey Korman, you will eventually get to Karen and Richard performing "Merry Christmas Darling" live with the California State University Long Beach Choir and again live on "The Bruce Forsythe Show." The latter is beautifully stunning...truly music from heaven!!!

It's time to bring our Christmas forum to life again.
This Christmas season is already under full swing. Our Carpenters music year long log is already getting Christmas adds recorded into the records. Thanks O.E.!
I'm very happy the Carpenters left us with so much Christmas music. Whenever the craziness of the season starts to wear on me I just listen to their beautiful music and let that VOICE lead me to calmer waters.

I saw the video of the Carpenters performing with the CSULB choir when visiting the Performing Arts Center. I got a bit emotional when that came on. Richard said in the "Close To You" DVD that the Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria" is a bear to sing, but Karen does it flawlessly!! I, too, listen to their Christmas music throughout the year. Christmas is not merely limited to a time, but a feeling/spirit. One of my other faves is "Christmas Waltz". Karen's opening note seems to last forever-it's ethereal & seems to come at you from all directions. It'd be nice if their Christmas shows were available, but with all the releases needed, it would be a huge undertaking! I remember watching them when they originally aired. Karen so loved the holiday & she would be very happy about what we're saying here. By the way, I learned on another forum that Richard & his daughter Mindy made an appearance @ & performed at the Center on the 15th. If that's true, I missed it by one lousy wk.-I flew home from my visit there on the 9th.Would have been nice to catch that. Did you hear anything about this, Rick???

YES, OF COURSE IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO HEAR RICHARD AND KAREN SINGING, BUT THIS TIME OF THE YR. IT'S ESPECIALLY NICE. I LOVE ALL THE CHRISTMAS SONGS THEY PUT OUT. I LOVE SLEIGH RIDE AND THE FIRST SNOW FALL OF THE WINTER.
