Just wanted to comment that I have been listening to "Horizon" again quite regularly. Than again I've always listened to this one regularly. I also listen to "Passage", "Karen Carpenter" (solo) and "A Kind Of Hush" on a regular basis - the last one surprises me since I generally say it's not one of my favorites - but certain songs like "Boat To Sail", "Goofus" and "One More Time" are always easily enjoyable to me.
"Horizon", though, it's the entire album that I enjoy (not just two or three songs). I usually listen to this album as an entire work of art. I would love to see a rerelease of this album with bonus tracks included - such as "Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again" and other songs recorded during this time period - maybe some of those very few songs they recorded in 1974 - which none of us have ever heard of.
Regardless, I've really been enjoying this dark and moody album again. The song that seems to stand out to me right now is the dryly beautiful "(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You" - it just sound plain good to me.

I sure agree with all the comments and selections of Carprave and Rick. Yes, life has a way of being real intense, challenging and pressured, even when you want to do the things you are doing. One song that reflects this (though it's not on "Horizon" now that I think about it, so technically I am in the wrong thread) is "Sailing On The Tide." Sort of an anthem of taking a break, getting away from it, choosing to be laid back for a while (could be days, maybe a year... I wish!) Almost a little bit of defiance- things aren't going to get done for a short time- and I don't care! I'm going into the sunshine- whether literally or not.

Yes, "Happy" is a very upbeat, and well-titled, song. I consider it one of a great many songs where even apart from the masterful music, lyrically alone there is greatness. The words pretty well capture the down- and now the up, of life. It is interesting that experience can be molded into poetry or prose that, even with an element of fiction, becomes a good reflection on reality.

again I was thinking that with the recent release of doubling up two albums and releasing them as a set it would be very nice if Carpenters / Universal would do an expanded release of "Horizon" which would include the normal ten tracks of the album with extra bonus tracks which would be outtakes from the album including "Tryin' To Get The feeling Again" and other songs recorded during that period which weren't included on the album... I'm certain there have to be at least five or six unreleased songs from their 1974-1975 recording sessions. I feel "Horizon" is their best album for an Expanded release as it's technically and musically their very finest work and it is still a very popular album throughout the world... as well as being the fans favorite.

The 'expanded album' concept is a pretty good idea. I wish it were true - and not just for the "Horizon" album. It would give a more accurate time line/song table if all the songs recorded were included on the particular album that was being released at a particular time.
I don't think I'm explaining what I'm trying to say very well. (I think I just need to get some sleep.)
Rick was talking about the recording sessions and the songs recorded in the "Horizon" albums time period maybe being put on an expanded album. What I am trying to say is that I wish all the Carps albums were expanded in like manner.
