The Japanese 'million dollar' box set « Thread Started on Oct 30, 2009, 12:56pm »
Hi There Rick and friends,
Just wanted to post a note about the Japanese box set...
I was wondering if any of you purchased it and what you think of it? I've tried to find some detailed information on it but I've looked everwhere and other than Amazon's site, I can't seem to find much. I was hoping to hear some detailed comments, or reviews, on what fans think of it. Wondered how many pages each booklet contained, if the noted by Richard are printed in Japanese or English and if they are plentiful new thoughts that we haven't heard before? I'm also especially curious to see a picture of the back page slot in wh ich they say the cd is held. Is there anyone who could post such a picture? Also wondered what kind of graphics are on the discs themselves. (I love graphics).
Does anyone know the cheapest place to pick it up? Amazon is showing that it is not currently in stock. Perhaps they sold out?
It looks like one of the discs is called "Sweet Sixteen"...? Does anyone have a track list they could share of what is on this disc? Also the other disc called "Essential Collection"?
I have the original large-sized box set (From The Top) from the early nineties. I passed on the "Essential Collection" because it seemed there really wasn't much new about it to justify the price. Plus I like the large-sized box and booklet much better.
If the two discs in this collection (Sweet Sixteen & Essential Collection) are a full combination of the new songs from other collections, I would be interested in buying it, once I can convince myself that almost $500 bucks is going on my credit card. ha!

Hi Johnnyraycer...
I have not heard of a "Million Dollar" box set. If you could email a link to me I can check it out. My email is kandronline@yahoo.com
Anyhow, there is a disc called "Sweet Sixteen" which is included in the "40th Anniversary Collector's Edition" box set which includes all 10 of their studio albums from "Offering" to "Made In America" along with the four posthumously released albums, "Voice of the Heart", "An Old Fashioned Christmas", "Lovelines" and "As Time Goes By".
The "Sweet Sixteen" a few highlights from the "Essential Collection", there isn't anything new on this.

Hey Rick,
Thanks for the response. My sense of humor is sometimes a bit TOO dry...
I was poking fun at the cost of the 40th Anniversary box set in my reference to it as the 'million dollar' box set. The one you are talking about in your response is exactly the one I was curious about. When I first saw pictures of the set, I didn't realize the covers were actually designed to be "book-like' covers, with the original covers of the albums evidently placed at the back of the small booklets. I have since become more interested in the set. I wondered what the song lists were for the disc called "Sweet Sixteen". I was curious as to what, specifically, was put on this disc, and also what the graphics looked like on the back page "album cover" part of the booklet. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks again for the response.

Yeah, I figured that out after I made my previous post. I like a good dry sense of humor... it keeps people guessing.
Anyhow, the disc is called Sweet Sixteen because it contains sixteen "sweet" tracks, all of which are found on "From The Top" and "Essential Collection".
Here is the track list: 1. All I Can Do (Spectrum version) 2. Your Wonderful Parade (demo) 3. Don't Be Afraid (demo) 4. All of My Life (1987 mix) 5. Eve (1987 mix) 6. Let Me Be the One (1990 mix) 7. Intermission (1989 mix) 8. Flat Baroque 9. Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (1984 mix) 10. Please Mr. Postman (1991 mix) 11. Moringa Hi-Crown Chocolate Commercial 12. Solitaire (single version) 13. Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again 14. Good Friends Are for Keeps 15. Suntory Pop Jingles 16. 1980 Medley (from Music, Music, Music Sing Knowing When to Leave Make It Easy On Yourself Someday We've Only Just Begun
Thanks Rick! Are the notes written in English? Is there anything new in them?
I'm not sure about that as I haven't purchased this set myself... but all the other Japanese box sets I won do have the liner notes in both Japanese and English... but usually there isn't any new information as the story has been told many times over in the past 40 years.
Once it's back on the U.S. amazon website I may consider purchasing it.
