Karen's rendition of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" is among the best I've ever heard. It got my vote. I also voted for the reflective "Two Sides" and the sassy "B'wana She No Home".

Karen's rendition of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" is among the best I've ever heard. It got my vote. I also voted for the reflective "Two Sides" and the sassy "B'wana She No Home". We came close to an agreement here, WJ7 - though I went with I Just Fall In Love Again, rather than DCFMA. Although, it was hard to choose, because I also favor Sweet, Sweet Smile, and Don't Cry For Me is, as you said, exceptionally well done by Karen - but just not one of my overall favorite songs. Two Sides is not only sung beautifully and reflectively, but the lyric is so dark and true...I love it. And, I Just Fall In Love Again was one of those that upon the first hear, I just melted. Beautifully done. B'Wana She No Home is such a fun jazz influenced tune that it, too, got my vote. Like you, Rick - I like most all of them....Man Smart Woman Smarter is also a great tune. They just them all so exceptionally well.

I so thoroughly enjoy "I Just Fall in Love Again," especially that huge breath Karen takes before, "Heaven is that moment when I look into your eyes, and oh, I just fall in love again!"

MY FAVORITE OF THE WHOLE THING IS SW. SW. SMILE SINCE IT'S JUST ABOUT MY FAVE SONG OF ANY SONG IN THE WORLD....THEN ALL YOU GET FROM A LOVE SONG, AND THEN...I JUST FALL IN LOVE AGAIN... IT WAS A LITTLE HARD IN THE DECISION BETWEEN I JUST FALL.... AND TWO SIDES BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE BOTH TUNES, BUT I WENT WITH JUST FALL... i ESPECIALLY LIKE THE PART WHEN KAREN'S VOICE GOES UP IN THE CHORUS ..."JUST ONE TOUCH, IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME" ((()))) I ALSO LOVE THEIR VERSION OF DON'T CRY FOR ME ...

"B'wana She No Home" has been my favorite "Passage" track ever since the first time I heard the album. While I was already familiar with "All You Get From Love" and "Calling Occupants", I'm not sure how many times I listened to "B'wana" before proceeding to listen to the rest. I've played it for numerous people who were surprised by it saying "wow, that's the Carpenters???!!!" I wonder what would have happened if "Passage" had followed "Horizon" instead of "A Kind of Hush"....

"I Believe You" to me sounds like album filler considering their great potential and back-log of songs. Considering the sales of "Passage" in comparison with previous albums, they easily could have pulled "Two Sides" as a single instead of "I Believe You", which sounds too easy-listening in its arrangement to me. Or recorded a more contemporary track without the Peter Knight sound.

Oh, you're right...I see it was Riser and Carpenter, I wasn't sure who it was. I was really comparing it more to the heavily orchestrated sound of Peter Knight. But, with your pointing out it was Paul Riser, I can definitely see a difference. While still very easy-listening, I think Riser's and Carpenter's arrangement is more lightweight sounding than Knight's.
