Very interesting Rick! Very unfortunately, I was not blessed by seeing Karen and Richard, but to see such a detailed list really catches my eye. I'm sure that they toured my home town at some point (because long ago, I did ask on Richard's site, but of course he didn't recall when and that's ok, ) how in the world you came out with these lists is very impressive and amazing! Thank you!

Hi Kathy... from what I can see Carpenters performed in Texas seven times.
January 19, 1972 in El Paso at the County Coliseum July 17, 1972 in Houston at the University of Texas, Hofheniz Pavillion February 3, 1974 in El Paso, the venue was not listed October 20, 1976 in Longview at Longview High School (must have been a huge auditorium for a high school) October 21, 1976 in Nocodoches at the Stephen Austin Coliseum October 22 in Huntsville at Sam Houston State University October 24, 1976 in Houston at the University of Texas
Hope this helps.

thank you once again for listing those places..unfortunately all those places are a long way from Lubbock, tx.......(Buddy Holly's home town and Mac Davis and others)... HOWEVER...both my bro. and sis lived and went to school a few yrs. in the 70's at (and this is a correction as far as spelling on your part, no biggie though ) in Nacogdoches, tx. at Stephen F. Austin University! <<<<<>>>><<<<>>>>><<<>>>>><<<<>>> But, money being tight for everyone, they would not have been able to go to many concerts, if any. I do recall by bro. went to see Lily Tomlin at the University. I have been through Longview when we traveled down that way, but don't recall it. If they could have, I do know they surely would have gone to see the C's. Nacogdoches is way down in East tx. but only a few hours from Houston. It's very beautiful, lots of trees and the university as well. It surely is hard to believe that Karen and Richard toured so very many places!! No wonder that their health failed them!

Too bad they never played Lubbock... by the way I love the song "Texas In My Rearview Mirror" by Mac Davis... that's one of my favorite songs. I used to play that one a lot when I was 19.

Just another note, Mac's been in Lubbock the past few mo. for commercials spots and interviews on tv on the local tv channel promoting people to support the arts and celebrate Lubbock's 100th anniversary. I don't live very close to Lubbk. anymore, but I would have loved to have seen him. He's a very down to earth kind of guy seemingly. I love all his songs.

Hi Mo Lee! When did you see Carpenters?
I saw them on December 29, 1977 at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the first and last time I went to Las Vegas.
The concert was very good. Karen was in fine vocal form although she was terribly thin. I remember thinking that. She did her fabulous drum solo routine and received a standing ovation for it.

Sad - the tour schedule was so grueling for them - you have to hold the record company and their management accountable for really taxing those kids like that - greed - you can argue the word broke Richard and Karen - no wonder they developed issues
and not to mention the TV and their record production - very sad

Yes, it was simply tragic the way the career of the Carpenters was handled. And it didn't only affect Karen and Richard. Tony Peluso, Doug Strawn, Danny Woodham, Gary Sims and others were right there with them on the road and in the recording studio going non-stop.
Karen and Richard had the added pressure of being in the spotlight and Karen being the star of the show.

Do you have any of their 1971 Concert Tour Dates? I saw them in San Jose (could have been San Francisco.....if I am wrong about San Jose) in 1971. I am sure of it. I was 15. The autographed Program I recently sold I do not think it had the concert tour schedule and I have been asked to provide more details, if possible. I have been unsuccessful in finding anything about their 1971 tour schedule on the Internet. I happened upon your site in my search and ended up spending alot of time reading and learning. I really enjoyed it and thank you for what you have shared about The Carpenters.

Hello tknighty there isn't any proper listing of the tour schedule prior to 1972.
There are bits and pieces of information on concerts they did in 1971 such as the BBC Live performance which was filmed and shown on television at the time it was happening. They also played the Royal Albert Hall in the UK and did a tour of the U.S. including Nebraska, Oklahoma and other states.
I will work on compiling the bits and pieces I can find and add them to the list in the original post. This may take me a week or two.
Keep checking back for the update.

I can help you with one concert date in 1971. It was in Commerce, Texas at East Texas State University. (about an hour from Dallas) It was my very first concert. I was 11. Anyway, the warm-up act was Mark Lindsay. He and the Carpenters were excellent. I remember too that Mark was very loud. He did "Arizona" and some other solo stuff. I don't think he did any Raiders material. Rainy Days and Mondays had either just been released as a single (or was about to) I remember that song distinctly as well as Ticket to Ride, Close to You, etc. The crowd loved them and the show was a complete sell out in the university's small auditorium. I still have the ticket stub: April 22, 1971 was the date. (A Thursday) One funny remembrance: A 5th grade friend of mine had a dad who was a professor. Either the Carpenters and their crew were either lost or had car trouble when they hit town and wandered into his office to get help. At first, (seeing what I guess would be the long hair of the crew or Richard) he almost called campus security. But they all parted as friends and help was given. Just joined the board. Great stuff!

Hello Jofaires... Welcome to Carpenters Avenue. Thank you for your input. I read about Mark Lindsay touring with Carpenters in the Ray Coleman book. As a matter of fact Tony Peluso (guitarist) was in Mark's touring band when he was opening for Carpenters.
